    Meet your new overlords.

Not really. I live in the SF Bay Area. It is as Progressive as you can get anywhere in the US. In spite of that, people are "fatigued" after what has seemed like an endless "SIP" order, which by the way was never enforced. Why not? If you won't do that, but then "command" that you must wear a...

    Meet your new overlords.

Went out for a ride around town visiting a few parks this morning in sunshine, something we haven't seen in the last 4 days. No mask for me, not even a baclava. Tennis courts, basketball courts, Volleyball, other riders. No masks. Gotta love it. The tighter Gov. Newsom turns the screws, the...

    Meet your new overlords.

Frontline had an episode on this that was being rolled out in China. Yeah, this whole social scoring system tied to freedom. Good behavior (higher score) is rewarded and bad behavior is punishable. I believe you could be denied in-country transit (rail, air) if it falls too low. Using a single...

Do you wear a mask when you ride?

The folks not wearing masks outside (walking, sports, biking, etc) are quickly outnumbering those wearing masks, and it has increased alot these last 30 days.

    Dining out during Covid

Newsom has got California so locked down, I wish I had the joy to try and find out since I prefer GMO-free ingredients even if choices are limited. Every place where I get take out, at least my favorite locations are pretty strict. Bars are definitely off limits and sealed off and covered...

    Online rider training courses?

Speaking of Sur Ron e-bikes. Locally, and sadly, an ebike fatality yesterday. https://www.santacruzsentinel.com/2021/01/25/soquel-man-dies-in-single-bicycle-accident/ "A closer look at the bike, a Sur Ron electric bicycle, helped officers determine it was not built for highway use, according...

    Online rider training courses?

That is confusing as hell and open to many interpretations. This is a local government problem and shame on them. I hope they get the verbiage cleaned up and the rules tightened up so everyone is on the same page this year.

    Online rider training courses?

This at least looks like an ebike and has pedals. But look. DIY ebikes, you run the risks and you will be held to account in the event of an accident.

    Online rider training courses?

Obviously for that, yeah. I mean it has a tail, fender, rear sprocket, license plate holder, mud guards, dirt bike seat, a motorcycle frame, and steering head bearings. That has no semblance of an ebike whatsoever. I've never seen one yet, but that one will get Law Enforcements attention, and...

    Walk Mode

It's a nice tool to have at your disposal in any situation, but especially on emtbs on steep inclines or through difficult terrain where your not entirely comfortable. I've also used it on the streets to test it out and out of the box, it works just about perfect for me.

    Online rider training courses?

I certainly hope not i.e. mandatory bike courses. I understand what your saying about dangerous/illegal riding and its perception to others, but more legislation is not the answer. But I agree you and Al, that at least some basic level 1 training should be made available, and I could argue you...

    Online rider training courses?

Out here in California, you need to pass the MSF course before you can get an M1 endorsement on your Driver's License. It is important that you do so, because a long time ago, the police loved doing paper checks at various stops in the mountains, for speeding, non CARB exhaust systems, illegal...

What are your cold weather ebike limits?

It does indeed, and just doesn't feel right.

Fortnine study: Are electric bikes more dangerous than motorcycles?

I ride both, a motorcycle and an e-bike. The former for over 15 years. On a motorcycle, you are side by side with cars sharing the same lane or using the whole lane like a car. So, in my mind, the car driver is used to seeing us in very close proximity to them on daily basis, and us with them...

    It's fire season again

Yup. Lots of wind-related damage here in the Bay Area this morning. Dangerously dry and unusually warm in the mid 70's. No significant rain anywhere in the forecast. Not good. We are well short in terms of rainfall. Hope the Sierra has ample supply of snow pack. We are going to need it. Pray...

I think I've officially over-researched. Too many options. Too many conflicting opinions.

Me too. And I am starting out in the e-mtb world. But the max I've done on my Surface 604 Shred on a single day is 28 miles and that was really pushing it. As it is 12/34 cassette and 32t sprocket, it is a climber, not a long distance road bike.

Pre-order and long wait to be the new norm for ebikes.

In metro areas, people rely heavily on public transportation to get to work. Even after we are all vaccinated, and the masks come off, I just don't see people going back to public transit in droves. Instead, I see the ebike trend continue to grow, because for alot of us, it is a renewed...

2021 Quad and/or 2021 Shred Reviews or Feedback?

We are already midway in January 2021 and nary a mention of the 2021 models of Quad, Shred, Colt, Rook, Boar, Twist (new), or Werk (new). Looking forward to hearing anything regarding these bikes.

What are your cold weather ebike limits?

In Bay Area California, this is a non-issue. overnight lows are in high 30's low 40's most of the time and daytime is roughly 55-62 this time of year, so yeah, everyone rides their bikes in shorts mostly. Never a need to ride in sweat pants unless you are really sensitive to cold, but that is rare.

Seatpost. Grease or not to grease?

I'm in the minority here. Surface 604 Shred came with the seat post that did not have grease on it, and I am glad they did, and I didn't apply any. The QR acts like it should, and I don't see any reason to apply any. This is purely based on user preference and prefer manufacturers did not ship...
