    Not buying Specialized ebikes again.

Here’s the soundtrack of the squeal that I was referring to. It was clearly noticeable anytime that I was pedaling without assistance which was often. I suspect that simply replacing the motor rather than tearing it down and rebuilding it was Specialized’s way of avoiding any further delay to...

This single sunflower along this lone stretch of road brought a smile to my face. A cheerful way to start the day.

Yep, Central Alberta. Smack in between the corridor separating the province’s two largest cities and near the doorstep to two national parks.

And all along I thought that were more into cakes, preferably Yule logs.

Sorry to hear about the issue with your Creo. I have to agree with the others that our SL motors do produce noise that is recognizable. I can only speak about my own experience over two years ago with Specialized and with two different dealers/shops with respect to my 2020 Creo. My whine/noise...

Rain was supposedly in the forecast for today’s 42km ride so we were prepared to don appropriate apparel. In fact, it was coming down all morning long so we decided to wait a bit hoping that the showers would subside. Surely enough by 11am it had slowed to a drizzle. For a change up, we opted to...

Well, it’s definitely on my no-fly list now. I might add that it’s possible that it was mistakenly hitching a ride on the wrong animal if, in fact, it was a horsefly.

The Hazy Days of Summer. Smoke from the wildfires has been hanging heavily in the air for the past couple of days so rides have been kept short. I spotted this flyloader clinging on to the front fork of my bike which is where it stayed for almost the entire trip. Little bugger.

Thanks Rab, I’ll pass your congrats on. Pretty proud of her especially since all of that effort was old school. Wonderful report and images, BTW and thanks for sharing. I searched but couldn't find an envy smiley, something perhaps the moderators need brought to their attention. 👍

Obviously Red Bull didn’t give him wings on this day. :( A full-face helmet and what appears to be no other body protection other than his pajamas.

We hit the C & E Trail once again today but ventured further south, bypassing the hamlet of Penhold while riding another 20km into the town of Innisfail. We came across a few stately homes along the way including one with a well crafted bright red garage. I have to admit that the adjacent...

Do gravel bikes need suspension forks?

It really depends on where you ride and how rowdy the conditions are. As @Stefan Mikes pointed out, the Redshift Shockstop stem and seatpost suspension setup combined will likely get you through most washboard or harsh bumps. Canyon’s split seatpost also offers up to 25mm of movement to minimize...

Do gravel bikes need suspension forks?

The Canyon Grizl: On and Salsa Tributary are two of three that I know of. The Cannondale Topstone Neo Lefty 3 is the other. The downside might be the lack of attachment points for cage mounts.

    Carbon forks?

Stefan, I could be wrong but it appears that there was vinyl wrap applied underneath Jacek’s fork. Curious to know why he didn’t install it on the front of the fork which is an area prone to rock chips and abrasions. Even Heli Tape would likely have prevented that nasty %$# from occurring.

Do gravel bikes need suspension forks?

I agree. The benefits likely outweigh any weight that it might add to a bike. The ones I’ve seen factory installed on current e gravel bikes sport 40mm of travel and provide plenty of clearance for 50mm tires. That being said, it all depends on what you want out for your gravel bike. If weight...

Yep, that pretty well sums up my summer ride calendar too. With the season here shorter than most, it doesn’t leave much choice other than to take advantage of each day the weather gods are smiling down on us. Even on those days when the wind is unrelenting, we’re usually out riding. Once the...

    Giant Stance E+

I understand how you feel. If it’s any consolation, I’ve purchased bikes from four major makers including Giant, Specialized, Trek, and Cannondale and none of them came with pedals. On one occasion, the LBS threw in a set of plastic pedals when I acquired my Norco e-fat bike just to get me on my...
