    Ultra Chainring Swap?

Can’t recall, but rule of thumb is number of extra teeth divided by two. So if new chainring has 8 extra teeth add 4 links. However being full sus bike I followed Sram’s guidelines which IIRC was to pull the coil spring and let it sit on full sag, wrap chain around largest cog on cassette and...

    Ultra Chainring Swap?

I upsized the chainring to a WT 48T on my Ultra powered Frey over a year ago with lengthened chain. Removed the chain guide in the process and never had a problem with the chain dropping. I did buy the WT chainring bolts, but snapped one when torquing, so just reverted to the stock bolts which...

Yamaha battery seems difficult to source and is a tad expensive....

Looks like deep discounts where I am too (Australia). Here‘s an example. https://www.yamahacity.com.au/product/ydxmoro07/?srsltid=AfmBOopNno-SxzclerKXlPnALVRz9P5ZvISS2g-ZilmCf0h9yFSjHzmS

Compact charger for Shimano AND Bosch

Before buying the charger just make sure you can get the adapters to suit the charge ports on your batteries/bike first.

Compact charger for Shimano AND Bosch

Wait (spelling) I own neither. Email Grin for adapters advice. I did when ordering mine (Frey Beast 60v and Earth T-Rex 48v) and they either had the adapter or advised of another supplier that had the adapter.

Compact charger for Shimano AND Bosch

I use the programable Grin Satiator to charge batteries from two different ebike manufacturers and which also have two different voltages and charge amps. You just need to buy adapters to suit each battery. It’s compact but not exactly lightweight nor exactly cheap. The main attraction of this...

The Weight of Specialized Full-Power E-Bikes Listed As Dry Weight (Without Battery)?

Clearly Specialised has a weight problem and are embarrassed about it 😜

Zen Photon Pro - Disc Brake Pad Replacement

At the same time as fitting the pads I also swapped the Tektro rotors to the Shimano Ice Tech‘s increasing the front rotor size, which are still fine after 1400+ klms. The Ananda M100 is a great motor. You have the 52 volt version in the Photon which will have a tad more “sparkle” than the 48...

Zen Photon Pro - Disc Brake Pad Replacement

I have 2 piston Tektro brakes on my hardtail ebike. It was originally fitted with Tektro organic pads (green backing plate) which were garbage on a derestricted bike. I soon swapped them to their metal ceramic compound (red backing plate) which are night and day difference to the organic pads.

Going to document my weight loss

I’ve lost 38 kgs over the last 5 years, going from 120kgs to 82kgs. Over that time I have experimented with diet vs exercise. Diet is certainly easier than hammering your body with intense exercise which I found was causing joint soreness. To overcome my joint soreness, over the last 18 months...

Trunk Bag for 2022 Turbo Vado

On my wife’s bike I screwed the Omni quick track adapter directly to the rack with countersunk self tapers after drilling pilot holes. Then slid the Topeak trunk bag onto the adapter. Work well over the last 15 months.

How do you all use your E-BIKES? Do you go out riding with friends or do you enjoy the experience on your own?

As I commute to work (weather depending) I ride alone most of the time. Occasionally with my wife and daughter on weekends.

Bafang Ultra motor for the ultimate riding experience

Another vote for the Bafang m620. As you’ve discovered, it’s the “Big Block“ of e-bike motors. Spare parts and spare motors freely available compared to other proprietary motors should there be any issues. And I’ve had zero issues with mine.

My EU legal ebike impressions so far

Sounds like it’s barely an improvement on a traditional accoustic bike…..and possibly slower! 😜

Hydra gen 2 vs Frey Beast

Too small. Change into the next gear and you immediately need to change again. Also mismatched for the top speed of the bike - virtually impossible to maintain top speed pedalling. You’re in top gear most of the time which is going to result in the smaller cogs wearing out sooner rather than later.

Hydra gen 2 vs Frey Beast

I use my Frey Beast to commute to work and love it after fitting a 48T chainring, but wasn’t a fan with the stock 40T chainring. Plush ride and dropper set post is handy. Magura brakes are awesome. I can‘t comment on the top speed with the throttle as I’ve never tried it as I don't really use...
