Charging cell phone off ebike in sub-zero temperatures

Might a good application for the Topeak Phone Drybag: https://preview.tinyurl.com/yck2wqdo Most phones generate some heat while charging. When enclosed in one of these dry bags, that heat generation might be sufficient to keep it charging if you start out with the phone at room temperature. If...

Vast majority of NYC's 28,000 new bike share bikes will be electric

Well, here in Seattle, Lime Bike drives a truck around and picks up their e-bikes to charge them up. Once charged, they drive a truck around and to drop them off in seed locations.

    Routine Maintenance

Important to note that chain stretch causes wear of the rear cassette and front chain wheel, which will eventually cause shifting and slippage problems. These problems can be very pronounced when a new chain is installed, due to the mechancial mismatch between the new chain and worn gears. Many...

    BROKEN SPOKES?

I really like them, they are the ideal tire for me, knobby enough that I am not deterred by a little mud or loose stuff, yet they roll very easily and quietly on pavement.

False marketing for motor power on rad power bikes?

Exactly, any motor can be operated above it's stated ratings and it won't hurt the motor as long as it doesn't overheat.

    BROKEN SPOKES?

I broke a spoke on the rear wheel of my 2012 iZip Zuma E3 at 3000 miles. That bike had a 500W hub motor, battery mounted on the rear rack, and I routinely hauled 2 full grocery bags in the rear panniers. I'm no featherweight, either, at 220#. So that rear wheel was put to some considerable...

    Routine Maintenance

By the time you notice an increase in chain noise, the chain is already overdue for lubrication. You shouldn't wait any longer. Stop by your LBS and ask what chain lube they recommend for your style of riding and get some tips on how to apply it. Also ask them for a chain stretch gauge so you...

Electric Bicycle Fatalities & Injuries Are Rising

I read the original article. I read the reply I responded to. I stated my opinion, Just like everyone else in this thread. And I stand by my comments. I'm not going to reply directly to anyone that tells me to "buzz off". That's just looking for a fight and I'm not biting. But I will avail...

Electric Bicycle Fatalities & Injuries Are Rising

Mike, thanks for sharing what you see as the shortcomings of the article, but I think your position is grossly exaggerated. Furthermore, as a an e-bike reseller, you're hardly unbiased yourself.

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

After getting used to using an outlet timer to charge my ebike, I also started using one on my laptop. In fact, I found out WIRED magazine recommended this way back in 2013: https://www.wired.com/2013/09/laptop-battery/

My new e-Bike: Cube REACTION HYBRID Pro Allroad 500 (2018)

I have 720 miles on this bike now. The dealer (Seattle Electric Bikes) did a little rear wheel truing at the 250 mile checkup. Otherwise everything has been perfect mechanically. The chain is still within tolerance (I wipe it off with a rag saturated with rubbing alcohol and lube it with...

Help - Choosing a bike with a smooth e-assist feel

I have a Cube Reaction Pro Allroad with the Bosch Performance CX motor. I find the power assist in EMTB mode is very natural. As a bonus the bike is very nimble and handles extremely well.
