    Electric bike book suggestions

Hey James, A lot of people have become millionaires by offering $0.99 cent downloads, and I've found a lot of great apps & content at that price. The "you get what you pay for" philosophy (which I completely agree with) doesn't necessarily apply with digital downloads. I'm not suggesting that...

    Electric bike book suggestions

James, I think you'd be surprised. There is wider online buyer audience at $0.99 and $3.00 than there is at $10. People have no problem downloading an app or content at 99 cents on a whim because even if it sucks...it was only 99 cents. Also, as great a guy as Court is; he's not a known...

Hey Court, I read this book written by Jim Turner from Optibike.

    Seattle Bike Expo - March 1 and 2, 2014

I didn't see the Eco at the show, but it looks like a good choice for a 5'3" rider. Best thing you can do is find a local shop (or show) that has one and see if you're wife is comfortable on one. I thought the Jumper was going to be perfect for my wife, but she preferred the Jet. The City...

    Seattle Bike Expo - March 1 and 2, 2014

The bike expo was fun. It was cold & rainy in Seattle but I was at least able to get a 15 minute test ride on the Jumper. My wife isn't exactly the all-weather rider so she bowed out of the offer to ride the Jet, and she hasn't been on a bike in about a decade so I didn't want her first...

    Seattle Bike Expo - March 1 and 2, 2014

There's obviously an obscene profit margin in these things, and a big fat commission for the salesperson. If one dealer is willing to sell a Jumper at $2400 AND include shipping, I'm guessing dealer cost is somewhere around $2000. Notwithstanding the fact I don't have a "local" BH dealership...

    Another Neo Carbon Lover

Saw the Neo Carbon in person yesterday. What a beautiful machine! I might buy one for more aggressive city rides and have a bonus battery for the Jumper.

    Seattle Bike Expo - March 1 and 2, 2014

In Seattle now...went to the Bike Expo yesterday. We had the chance to talk with the BH rep that had a display set up with a local e-bike retailer. To my surprise, the event wasn't set up for test rides. They have a lot of space to work with (the show is at a cruise terminal) so they could...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

I absolutely agree everyone needs to do their part to make the planet a better place to live. We planted over 200 trees & shrubs on our property (where none existed before). On on my way to Seattle today, my VW TDI wagon achieved over 50 MPG on the highway. In spite of my car's excellent fuel...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Electric bikes make perfect sense but electric cars are ridiculous on so many levels. - It takes 5 hours to "fill-up" for the range equivalent to about one gallon of gasoline - Ford Focus electric: $37,000. Enough said. - The 600 lb battery in the Leaf costs Nissan approximately $18,000...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Exactly. Do we really need 30 gears on a bicycle? I think the "more is better" idea comes into play when bike manufacturers compete with each other. I've read some reviews that question the Neo's "underpowered" 350 watt motor, but then read Dave's review saying he was surprised at how...

    Another Neo Carbon Lover

Hey Dave, The Carbon is a beautiful bike; it looks like a sculpted piece of art. I can't wait to ride all of Easy Motion bikes next weekend. I'm still undecided about what bike I really "need" since I may only go on trails occasionally, and most of it's duties will be commuting on city...

    Seattle Bike Expo - March 1 and 2, 2014

Hello Everyone! I'll be attending the Seattle Bike Expo on March 1 & 2. Easy Motion (among others) are sponsors for the event, and are expected to have their line of bikes on display. I'm shopping for a couple of e-bikes (for my wife & myself) and we're really excited to try out the Jumper...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Yeah, have some neck and back issues, but basically in good health. This time around, I'm going to stick to bike paths and trails as much as possible. To Dave's point, the people that are "cheating" or otherwise think people that buy e-bikes are lazy - think it makes perfect sense to drive...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

That's exactly right! I was "that guy" too. I was looking at e-bikes last summer, but the one I was considering (the Specialized Turbo) was over $5K. I thought that was ridiculous and bought a used 2008 Ninja 650 (for $3600) that I rode a total of four days before an idiot driver decided to...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Dave, I think the majority of Americans shake their heads, and are puzzled - simply when they see a bike on the road (let alone an e-bike)! Let's face it, a lot of drivers view cyclists as an annoyance and unfortunately don't feel there's a reason to share the road with us. Sadly, it's going...

LOCKS - All about Ebike locks !!

It would be nice not having to lug around an extra 10-15lbs of hardened steel around, but I guess the tried & true bolt-cutter-resistant chain is still the reliable defense against thieves. Looks like these are around $150 and here's the official page with more info.

2014 Easy Motion Neo Jumper 650B

Yikes!! I suppose no lock is impenetrable with the right tools but those bolt cutters went through the Tigr lock like butter.

2014 Easy Motion Neo Jumper 650B

Good to know that I can carry the charger in my backpack and charge the battery at a client site, and be good to go for the trip home. I've seen a few chargers that are bulky monstrosities. As for locks, I'm looking at couple of these: http://tigrlock.com Tigr locks are a little spendy but...

2014 Easy Motion Neo Jumper 650B

Hey Ravi, how long does it take to charge it up, and how big is the charger? The Jumper 650b is going to be at the Seattle bike show next weekend so I'll finally get the chance to ride it. While I'm there, I'm going to gear up on everything else including helmets, fenders, lights, etc.
