Turn Your Bike Into an Electric Bike

The two piece PAS (sensor ring and magnetic disc) are installed on the right side of the crank. You slide the sensor ring over the bottom bracket then reinstall the bracket. The ring sits secure behind the flange as shown in the first two frames of this install diagram. *** Important...

4 Bike 500w Rear Hub Motor Builds from Greenergy

It's a genius idea and in my view misnamed. It's more a tool than a throttle. A better name would be a DAS or DAL. Direct Assist or Direct Assist Lever.

Turn Your Bike Into an Electric Bike

You will need a crank puller like this: https://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-Compact-Crank-Puller/dp/B0028YUZSS/ And if you install the PAS3 type sensor on the drive side of the crank, you'll need a bottom bracket removal tool...

4 Bike 500w Rear Hub Motor Builds from Greenergy

DIY conversions are fun projects and rewarding, but be prepared for some hidden costs. When I bought my first Bluenergy kit on Amazon, I assumed 'disc brake compatible' meant the wheel was for rim brakes but also compatible with disc. Not so - disc brake only. The ebay listing specifies...

4 Bike 500w Rear Hub Motor Builds from Greenergy

The Bluenergy rims are disc brake only. The painted surface where the brakes would contact is not suitable for braking. You'll need to move the motor to a rim brake compatible wheel like this one by Alex. https://www.treefortbikes.com/Alex-Adventure-2-TRS-Rim-26-Machined-Sidewall For my...

4 Bike 500w Rear Hub Motor Builds from Greenergy

These kits you ordered are made by 'Bluenergy'. They are good kits and include torque washers. I have over 2,000 miles on my Electra Townie conversion with a Bluenergy kit. https://electricbikereview.com/forum/threads/electra-townie-conversion-with-kit-from-bluenergy.26457/ And my wife just...

Turn Your Bike Into an Electric Bike

Here's where the thumb throttle goes. You can coordinate braking, gear shift, and thumb throttle in one fluid motion. A twist throttle would go where the gear shifter is in the picture. When you have a twist shift you need a shorter grip to make room for the shifter. The right grip is...

Turn Your Bike Into an Electric Bike

A thumb throttle is purpose built and better in my view. You engage the thumb throttle momentarily to get going or to maintain momentum when navigating at lower speeds. It's ergonomic and a valuable tool.

Mid drive TSDZ2 with torque sensor - thoughts and question(s)

Same for my Electra Townie. The bottle mounts are lower on the frame. To workaround, (assuming you don't mount the controller in the battery case) you can drill holes through the base plate and attach to the bottle mounts. And you actually get a more secure mount. Mine is solid. See...

Electra Townie conversion with kit from Bluenergy

Another option would be to get a second bottle battery and stow in her rack bag. But so far our rides have been under 15 mi. Also, her battery charges fast. So, it's plausible we could charge up onsite while enjoying an extended brunch.

@Thomas Jaszewski, we come from that 'Stranger Things' era where we built model rockets, model planes, and things with parts from Radio Shack. We've got this e-bike kit thing in the bag.

Electra Townie conversion with kit from Bluenergy

Agreed. That said, 36v batteries are cheaper in the sense that you only need 10 cells in series to get to 36v (10x3.7). For a 48v you would need 13 cells. More cells equals more cost.

Electra Townie conversion with kit from Bluenergy

I need to defer to others here for more specifics on the trade-offs. I chose a 250w/36v for my wife's bike because the motor weighs a bit less and one could get a viable 36v battery in a small water bottle form factor. A similar 48v battery would never fit her bike as you would need too many...

The wheel arrived true and ready to install. Just add a brake disc. My wheel had held up pretty well until recently. I broke my first spoke around 1200 miles. Then at 1900 broke three more. Charlotte Cycles repaired the wheel both times and sourced compatible 12g spokes from from Pedego...
