Looking for the perfect e-bike (if that exists)… for me!

To get back into the groove I’d suggest you join a local Meetup group like this: Check out E Biking LA County and Beyond on Meetup https://meetu.ps/c/52G5V/T80CF/a I’ve been on Paul’s rides numerous times and he’s based in the Calabasus area so most of his rides tend to be in that area.

new Vado SL - changing Chainring to 40T

I would go even smaller, perhaps 36t, if you’re looking for better low end performance. Of course, you’ll be sacrificing a few gear inches off the top end, but depending on your riding style that may not matter to you. On my 10-46 cassette drivetrain I swapped out the stock 42t chainring, and...

    Does your e-bike need makeup?

In America, during the holidays, we even wear Christmas lights when we go hiking at night…

    Does your e-bike need makeup?

Oh yeah, that’s me. This goes for most outdoor gear I own, including my backpacking gear, especially cooksets. I like that grungy, worn look. Just has so much more character, IMO. I‘ll even go as far as pulling brand new stickers off of bike frames, component, etc…

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I use 170’s on my other bikes but have been experiencing knee pain on long rides for the longest time. Crank length calculators also recommend shorter cranks for my inseam. Shorter cranks yields less leverage but with pedal assist I thought I’d give them a try. And on rocky trails I am...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

On my e-bike I swapped out my 170 cranks for 155’s. Feels good, I’m able to spin more efficiently, turning smaller circles. With my 30’ inseam, I need short cranks.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Running 12-speeds, my long cage derailleur comes scary close to the ground with my 27.5 wheels when running lower profile gravel tires, for instance. 2.3 knobbies give me more clearance, but also increases my standover height, noticeably.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Wheel size makes a difference too, when it comes to being able to reach the ground with your feet. One reason why I don’t ride 29” wheel mtb’s.

Building A New Wheel Is A Nightmare

I still have that same book! I used to lace my front wheels radially because they were easy, used shorter spokes, & saved a few grams. Lol. Of course, this was before disc brakes became widely used…

Replacing a stolen e-bike! Decisions, decisions, decisions

Sorry about your loss. Same here, at one phase I rode nothing but fixed gear and single speed, road and mtb, for about a dozen years. And at 70 years old I still ride my fixed gear around town from time to time. Love the simplicity of these machines. But last year I finally broke down and...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I also like the armpit method and it works for me. As for tippy toes when you come to a stop, and if you like to stay seated, install a dropper post. I recently installed one on my e-bike and it was a game changer for me in every respect…. from being able to plant both feet on the ground...

Convert 7 Speed to 8 Speed?

The OP was complaining about the huge jump in size between the 34t & 24t cogs.

Convert 7 Speed to 8 Speed?

IF you have a HG hub you can even go beyond 8 speed to achieve an even tighter spacing between cogs. But keep in mind, a new cassette (9,10,11 speed, for instance) will, for the most part, require a matching chain and a narrower chainring. I converted my drivetrain to a 12-speed, 10-45, and...

    Bikepacking with an E-Bike

Yep, I prefer a rear rack with panniers also. And I usually strap my top and under quilts for my hammock at the front. I’m not a ground dweller, I hammock camp mostly.

    Bikepacking with an E-Bike

I retrofitted an AEROE dry bag cradle on the fork arch using a diy aluminum bracket. Performs very well.

Greetings from a Noob in Grass Valley CA

Wrap around safety glasses work for me. They’re cheap, but stylish and very effective. Within a month of getting my new Canyon e-bike I’ve done a lot of things to the bike, from completely removing the heavy fenders to swapping to a smaller chainring and narrower cassette. And installed my...

    Slime in my tires

I’ve used slimed tubes in the past, never had any issues, and sealed small punctures quite well. But these days I run tubeless on a couple of bikes, and on a couple of others I’ve injected tubeless sealant in the tubes and that seem to work well with not too much weight penalty compared to...
