If you disconnect the controller-to-motor cable you'll also get an error 9. When you opened the motor did you look at the copper coils? They can melt when the motor overheats under hill climbing duress. Burning out Bafang hub motors...

I don't think there is any difference in the caliper - only the size of the disc (160 vs 180) and mounting position. My bike came with an 180 mm setup up front, so installing the TRP was plug-n-play. The rear is 160 mm and I have an old BB5 installed there.

I've had a similar experience. I'd take the bike in and it shifted no different when it was returned. And more than one LBS. Since then I learned how to do my own adjustments. It takes a bit of practice, but this video from Park Tools will walk you through the steps.
