    Mongoose Envoy

As we speak, the Envoys are getting harder to come by. The medium/large model has been sold out for some time and the small/medium is now priced above $800 on Amazon. :(

    Mongoose Envoy

Tomorrow I'll be over 3500 miles on the Envoy. A lot has changed since the beginning of the project. All that remains of the original bike are the frame, handlebars, crank, and a few odd bits. More details to follow...

Redshift ShockStop seatpost and stem installed

This is a nice upgrade. This week, I installed the 30deg/100mm stem on my Mongoose Envoy. By default, the stem comes installed with a pair of elastomers. The 60 (orange) and 70 (blue). I pulled the 70 and left the 60 installed. I took a ride and it seemed squishy. The next day, I pulled the...

    Greenergia

I've never had a problem with the controller. At 18A, it will still output 750W at 39V. I can hit 28 mph on both my Electra Townie and Mongoose but you need a nice flat to run. Mostly I hit 25 mph top speed. On the Mongoose Envoy I have a SW102 display (same base display as the...

    Greenergia

Based on the images from that link, Greenergia is offering 48V/22A/750W and 48V/30A/1000W controllers now. I have the 18A controller on my bikes @harryS referenced.

    Moscow spoke tension

As I recall the Moscow has 13g or 2.3 mm spokes. According to this chart for Park Tool's meter, the tension should be between 22 and 32. https://www.parktool.com/assets/doc/product/TM-1_conv-table.pdf Also, the cassette side of the rear wheel and disc side of the front will have slightly...

Handlebar Jack - A new Ultra Portable Bicycle Repair Stand.

They're Mongoose factory grips. Came with the bike. They're alright but thin and I was planning on replacing with Ergon's.

Handlebar Jack - A new Ultra Portable Bicycle Repair Stand.

These handlebar jacks are magic. But if the Velcro is not tight enough over the grips or bar (hooks and loops wear over time) the jack can slip out of position and exposed components can get damaged. Rubber straps would be more secure.

    Pedaling with no power

Pedaling on level ground you'll barely notice the extra weight. Hills or a moderate incline is where you'll feel the difference.

Wanting to upgrade my existing Ebike and need help

I have a Bafang DPC 18 color display on my Electra Townie and a Bafang SW102 on my Mongoose. I prefer the SW102. The Eggrider is an SW102 with custom firmware. That said, the button action on the DPC 18's remote keypad is pretty sweet.

My DIY Luna Cycle Bafang HD is finished!

Yes. Do this. I converted a Mongoose Envoy last year. My bottom bracket was well greased, but the fork bearings needed some love. Also, I tossed out the front factory wheel and replaced with a Rhino Lite XL rim and Shimano hub.

My DIY Luna Cycle Bafang HD is finished!

If the brakes are like the ones on the Mongoose Envoy, they'll work aright but need regular adjustment and can be noisy. Even with organic pads. Stan Miller's Electric Envoy https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/mongoose-envoy.33132/ I upgraded to a set of TRP HY/RD hydraulic brakes...

Replace rear cassette with lower gears.

The Acera won't do 40T. Sometimes you can use derailleur extender to make it work. Also the offerings are limited in 8 speed increments. Upgrading to a Microshift Advent groupset would yield a 9speed setup with 11-42T gearing.

Throttle ? Yes or no ?

Throttle or not depends on your bike's design philosophy. If your bike follows a matching inputs design (typically mid-drive/torque sensor) where the bike matches your effort in selectable ratios, a throttle is outside the scope and doesn't fit. However, if your bike follows a utilitarian...

    Replacing round brake posts

I had it backwards. Drill should be set to reverse. Demo here.

    Replacing round brake posts

Yes turn the drill clockwise and the bit extracts counterclockwise. Magic! Then again.... the drill should be set to reverse when using a left handed bit. See post from @McCorby below. I have a set of these bits and have used them on car projects.

    Replacing round brake posts

Next is a left handed drill bit. It will probably wreck the post but will get it out. Left handed drill bits unscrew when the drill is rotating forward. https://www.harborfreight.com/left-hand-drill-bit-set-13-pc-61686.html .

    Replacing round brake posts

For the Shimano BR-T4000 brake calipers, one would use a 5mm allen wrench on the post. If the inside is rounded and won't accept an allen wrench, you could try a a vise grip on the outside.
