What equipment for a Tero 5?

Here's a kickstand that has worked very well for me on a different e-bike, but it will fit my Vado SL 5.0 (even though I have not yet attached it). It is solid and adjustable. BV Heavy Duty Rear Mount Bicycle Bike Kickstand Adjustable for 24" - 29" E-Bike/Mountain Bike/Road Bike/BMX/MTB (40mm...

Odd..Mike's Bikes had orders cancelled by Specialized ???

This past September, shortly after I bought my Vado SL 5.0 from Mike's Bikes in Berkeley (CA), one of the store managers told me Specialized was ending their relationship with Mike's because Specialized now wants exclusivity. Mike's told me they would be selling Giant bikes in the future (along...

    Disc brake stopping power

Don't worry!! I'm 74 and no longer a thrill-seeker, but thank you for the advice and concern. A woman was killed in Berkeley a couple of weeks ago coming down Claremont Blvd from Grizzly Peak on her bike. Apparently it was a "solo accident," meaning no other bikes, vehicles or pedestrians...

    Disc brake stopping power

My results seemed low to me too. My Vado is the SL 5.0, weighing about 33 lbs. I'm around 210. I'm not nearly as comfortable with speed as you seem to be! 28-30mph is about my limit, and that's on a downhill straightway. Turns are much slower. I try "to brake in short progressive bursts,"...

    Disc brake stopping power

Kahn, My experience may help put your 2,000 miles on your brake pads into perspective. In mid-September, I purchased a Vado SL 5.0. I immediately started tracking every ride with Specialized Ride and Ride With GPS on my iPhone. I have ridden 523 miles with 60,380 Feet Of Elevation Gained. I...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Thanks, mschwett! I see that now. Very cool. I may not need RideWithGPS anymore, but I do like how it displays the ride map and data. I do notice that RWGPS and MC record elevation gain differently, but I gather that's to be expected. (I have an iPhone XR.) For me, that's not critical...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Very cool--no doubt about it. Dare I say "TMI?" Haha. Truly, that may be more information than I want or need to know. But it is indeed impressive. I see the light!!

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Hi Stefan..... I'll look at BLEvo. I've been using RideWithGPS for a year now with my previous ebike. I really like the way it displays the ride stats. MC adds Calories, WH Consumption and Avg Support Level, which are nice to have. What I really want to add are the stats showing % of each...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Thanks for that info. I'm interested in the ride data you mentioned--power, % usage of each mode, battery info, etc.--in addition to distance, elevation gain, elapsed time, grade and so on. I may just have to give RIDE a try, even though I don't need much of what it does in terms of maps and...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Has anyone tried running Mission Control and RIDE at the same time? It seems they have some features in common, but other unique features. One of you guys said both apps might not be able to connect at the same time to the Vado SL 5.0 because perhaps only one Bluetooth device can connect at a...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Have you tried RideWithGPS? It does not connect to the bike, but it shows lots of good information about the ride. On the Library page of the app, rides can be named and sorted on different fields--very handy. And it gives you stats for week, month, year, career.

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Thanks, Scott. I'll download RIDE. Do you know if you can run it, Mission Control and RideWithGPS all at the same time?

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

mschwett is correct--Marin Ave was originally planned to have a funicular on it. I don't know enough Berkeley history to know it it ever happened. I do know that there were several trolley lines in the flatter parts of Berkeley, below the very steep hills.

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Scott, I think you are right that as I get more familiar with Mission Control (and hopefully get stronger too), the battery will go farther and I won't need the Range Extender. I'm already finding that if I'm willing to ride a little slower I can do just find in ECO mode and a low gear. I'm...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Stefan, I think you are absolutely correct. The Range Calculator probably needs another one or two data fields for age and general physical condition. I started this thread because of my initial disappointment with my battery results on my first challenging ride up Mt. Diablo. After reading...

    Coup d'état Range Extender deal!

You got lucky! I tried both codes--honey and 100years--and neither worked. I called Al's and was told that Specialized is exempt from their sale. In fact, it says that right on their site on the page listing exemptions. Definitely you should play the lottery! Good luck!

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Sierratim..... I know NC very well. Lots of friends live there. The non-SL sounds just right for NC. My first ebike weighed just over 60 lbs and I wanted the Vado SL because I wanted a ride that felt more like a "regular" bike. I'd love to do the Lake Tahoe West Shore trail--I've walked some...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

kahn, Stefan and mschwett, Thank you all for your comments and the information. It's been 50+ years since I studied high school physics, so while I don't really understand all of the numbers, I do understand the concepts. I trust all of you, however, and find the analysis fascinating. What...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Ah.... OK.... I appreciate the data point and your view that my results are "about right for that climb." I hate to spend another $450 on the RE, but I agree that it is probably my best option. John

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Haha. I may be a masochist, but the ride is absolutely beautiful, relatively safe because of few cars, and great exercise. Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm not really interested in the BBSD02. I'm hoping for comments about the Mt. Diablo ride on my Vado SL 5.0 and what is reasonable...
