How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Emphasis on the die, perhaps? tongue slightly in cheek (added)

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

The Idaho Stop codifies the behavior of most cyclists anyway. It‘s legalization is spreading around the USA as more folks ride bikes. It is definitely safer when there are clear lines of site but that safety is dependent upon cyclists actually slowing and looking both ways at stop signs and...

SQlab Innerbarends®: The Strong and Weak Points

Keeping the thread going, I just got Innerbarends 411 2.0 thanks to Stephan‘s frequent recommendations. As with the other commenters descriptions, they make a terrific difference in my riding comfort. Though I still need to tweak their positioning a bit, I too rode with my hands mostly on the IBEs.

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Bicycle infrastructure in Loudoun County Virginia is a mixed bag. The primary infrastructure is the Washington & Old Dominion rail trail (WOD). This is a 45 mile long paved trail going from Alexandria to Purcellville VA. I the counties invest in trail maintenance and improvements. There is a 31...

Rebuilding Vado 4 battery vs buying a new one for $1K

Thanks again. I’ll check The status and get back to the thread if I have questions. I like geeking out on this stuff, but I lack bike history as I’d not ridden for half a century and don‘t have deep knowledge. I know the SL batteries are different. Didn’t realize why - current levels. I’d...

Rebuilding Vado 4 battery vs buying a new one for $1K

Thanks for the details. As usual, your knowledge is incredibly useful. I’ll have to check for the details and to be certain, but after about three years, Blevo says the battery on my Vado SL is at 94%. I’ll have to dig deeper to see how that equates to your comments.

Rebuilding Vado 4 battery vs buying a new one for $1K

I don’t understand your question. The battery on your Vado is good for about 1000 charge cycles. You have years to go before you’ll need to replace it. If you need more range, a second battery makes sense. Except for the cost, of course.

Interesting phenomenon post update or is it spring?

Since getting the recent firmware updates, my Vado SL 4 EQ has been runnning more smoothly and is quicker, even in Eco. It’s also gotten warmer and it is spring. I’m curious on your thoughts. Is my experience due to the updates or warmer weather improving electrical performance? Or and I in...

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

Besides the ability to automatically limit charges to 80%, I’ve noticed smoother performance when in turbo mode, an issue I’d had. The other reported updates are too subtle in effect to be aware of.

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

I hadn’t considered the challenges of updates for the technology challenged. While I believe the concern may be overblown, you’re right to point out that neither the bike shop mechanics nor the typical user may be capable of dealing with problems during an update. And a failed update would...

Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH - The Nightmare Continues

I’m glad the resolution to your problem is satisfactory. Specialized ultimately did the right thing. Sadly, you still don’t have a bike. I suspect these issues will continue due to the complexities of the bicycle business. Perhaps, as Specialized‘s DTC model matures things will get better. Most...

Bike shop charging fee to upgrade mission control?

The email announcing the update that I received, (the fist time I’ve ever received any notice) said that there could be a charge for the update. One dealer I went to said they’d charge $20 US. The dealer I went to included the update in an annual service job. I agree it should be free, but… I...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I agree. The best accessory investment I’ve made for mine. No more range anxiety and less time on the charger. Sixty to 70 miles on a charge over several rides this winter. I didn’t pay attention, so can’t say what the difference might be for summer weather.

    Firmware update for charging limit

P Your experience with Specialized is definitely different than here in the USA. I believe your Specialized dealer is owned by them. Here, most dealers are independent and may not be compensated for updates. Especially if the bikes are not otherwise in warranty. (Warranty repairs are...

    Firmware update for charging limit

Interesting. I’m sort of in the middle on this. If I have no scheduled longer or group rides pending, I only charge when I’m below 30% or so when I come back from a ride. If I have a scheduled longer ride I charge the day before. I’ve been charging to 100%, but will probably change to the 80%...

New Firmware for multiple bikes. Only updatable via the bike shop

There is another kind of safety, one of great concern to my senior citizen neighbors: their fear of LI battery fires. Charging to 80% as a feature can be helpful when dealing with frightened seniors. Especially those on a condo owner’s board.

Peter Flax article for Bicycling.com about the challenges presented by DTC ebikes

What a fun thread. It has everything. A good lede. Mostly good arguments. Only a few insults. Recognition of the absurdities implied in the Bicyling.cpm article. And remembering the dumb stuff I did with my bike when I was a kid. I won’t even mention the dumb stuff I’ve done as a senior citizen.
