Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Most of my riding is on a rail trail where I have to contend with horses, walkers, runners, other cyclists; some slower some faster. My average speed over thousands of miles and five plus years on an analong as well electric bikes is between 12 (analog) and 15 (E). I hadn’t thought about...

    19.5 mph top speed

As an old man on my Ebike, I get some modicum of pleasure casually cruising past a young guy on a road bike struggling up a hill. Of course, he then shoots by me leaving me in the dust.

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Actually, I can ride at 28 mph or even faster on occasion on my SL4 EQ. (My highest speed was 34 mph which according to a gearing speed calculator is the speed the bike can go ignoring whether there’s a motor.) Most often this is on the last mile of my usual route with a 3% down slope, often...

    The Carrot Effect

This thread has made me think about my riding in a different way. That’s a good thing. My first adult bike (at 71) was a Cannondale Adventure Hybrid. I found it had what I thought of as its natural speed. In a middle to high middle gear I could pedal easily at about 12 - 15 mph. When conditions...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Actually in the context of Specialized traditionally high prices the prices are almost reasonable. Even for the absurd special edition. After all electronic shifting is is a very popular thing to over pay for. Actually, I’m glad the price is so high. It almost cures the false need illness.

    Redshift ShockStop "Full Suspension" Review

This exchange answere a question I had recently about my setup. The elastomer I’m using is fine for absorbing vibrations and the impact of road cracks, bumps and small broken branches. When things get rougher, such as on a longer gravel ride or a rocky shunt off a trail, I need more help. I’d...

Do you recognize this part? Vado SL 5.0 + range extender

Assuming its the socket or at least the locking collar/cover it’s an inexpensive easy to replace (if you have a good 2mm torx) part.

Sudden loss of braking performance on rear brake - Vado SL 4.0

Very interesting analysis. Last month I was experiencing poor performance of the front brakes on my Vado SL 4. They worked but not strongly. I couldn’t lock the front wheel when I tried as a test. It’s been a hot and humid summer here in Northern Virginia, staying so until late in the season...

People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

A parallel observation: Do you think meeting standards might result in more standardized battery and charger designs? I thinking about an increased amount of interchangeability between bikes in a brand and perhaps even between brands? For example the EV car standardization on Tesla charger...

People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

Very interesting and informative discussion. It would seem that the current solution to Ebike regulation is to assemble panels of people who don’t ride bikes of any type, rarely walk further than from their cars through the store (or wherever) and are not comfortable with the present, let alone...

EBR made me do it! (new Vado SL 5.0 EQ)

No, there is no standard option to charge your phone. I suppose something could be wired after the warranty expires but it may not be a good idea. I carry a power bank for those rides where I’m using RideWithGPS for turn-by-turn directions. Otherwise, my iPhone is good for about two or three...

How do you all use your E-BIKES? Do you go out riding with friends or do you enjoy the experience on your own?

Both. Weather permitting, at least one ride per week alone, one with an ebiking friend and occasionally with an analog bike riding friend. Also several rides a year with the E-bike Lovers of Washington DC group.

Battery Range Experience for Specialized E-Bikes

Technically, I agree. As I’ve said, I too ride several 13-20 mile rides a week. I got the RE In case I decided to extend a ride to 30 or 40 miles when I was otherwise between charges. This plan sort of works. But, of course I often screw it up anyway And either don’t have enough charge for the...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I’ve had to do so twice. The part is inexpensive and built to stay that way. The screws are tiny two mm torx for which it is difficult to find a decent tool. Most strip the screws or themselves. The first time it happened, I had my LBS fix it. The second time I tried myself but met the crappy...
