Random Loss of power when pedaling? Bafang Ultra

Any energy your controller is trying to send to the motor that isn't converted to rotation, is converted to heat. So full throttle at low speed (hub) or cadence (mid-drive) will generate a lot of heat. The motor will de-rate to protect itself when the heat builds too high. External motor case...

You Really Do Get What You Paid For (Motors)

I'd be willing to step up with a few caveats for discussion purposes. First, torque sensing vs cadence eliminates many of your issues. Many builders are going there now with both their mids and hubs, so that issue may all but disappear soon. Second, a "Properly Tuned" Bafang mid drive can be...

Average Cruising Speed on your e-bike

Phone & apps primarily. I have a specialized Ambush helmet with the ANGI crash sensor, so the specialized app runs on most commutes. I have other helmets for lazy rides or winter use, so either the "Map My Ride" app, or my GPS device with Garmin Earthmate if I'm going out of cell service.

2021 Rize Models - Shipping Thread

Softer (Negative) will be squishier and bouncier. Harder (Positive) keeps it rigid if you find it's too bouncy while pedaling, or you want to minimize the energy lost when pedaling for serious exercise. And the Preload is the sag. You want to set it about 20% of the available travel so that...

2021 Rize Models - Shipping Thread

Since the seat is an option there are no instructions in the manual, so just to ensure everyone knows how to adjust it: Remove it from the bike and flip it over to find the adjustment screw inside the seat post. And, the Suntour can take 3 different springs. If you fall significantly outside...

    Throttle resistance

There are also a range of throttle aids in the motorcycle world sometimes generically called Crampbusters. They slip on and allow you to use your palm weight to maintain the pressure. A poor mans cruise control, but also increases leverage, reducing the perceived spring tension...

Passed by accident where a biker got killed :/

Fun fact - Here in BC it is the law that if there is no sidewalk or adequate shoulder present on the road (e.g. outside the white line), pedestrians must walk on the extreme left facing traffic.

R&M Recall Packster 70: Recall and immediate riding stop.

The wording of the full recall sounds like a "We're not even going to repair this". If it's a fatal flaw that is not practically repairable, I wonder if they might just ask for a local strip and dispose with proof of decommissioning? Has R&M done a no-repair total recall before?

    Rize X or Leisure (2021)

Looks like you can still access the advanced settings through the display on the Rize X. Page 10. Try to set your motor responsiveness down a little. It might only delay the startup, not the output, but worth a try...

Passed by accident where a biker got killed :/

I have seen so many drivers drift across the bike lane like it's not even there. Usually to make a right turn, but often just because they don't recognize what it is (or that it is a legal additional lane of traffic). Apparently we need to add to the motor vehicle test some instruction that...

Torque sensor seems optimized for higher gears

There may be a setting that determines the torque sensor outputs at varying pressures. Does your manual indicate any programmability? If not, maybe email Juices and see if they can help you adjust the torque sensor sensitivity so it ramps up with less pressure.

R&M Recall Packster 70: Recall and immediate riding stop.

Sounds like a dramatic escalation of the previous recall. I smell a serious accident or lawsuit behind that one... 🤔 From just 4 months ago:

Passed by accident where a biker got killed :/

I like to vary my commuting route up to keep things fresh and interesting, but if I'm riding during any real traffic I make point to try and stick to the median separated bike lanes and non motorized trails. Can't even begin to describe the s*it I've seen in the "white line" bike lanes. Sad...

What's it like to ride a fat bike?

I'm a big guy with 2 fat bikes, and I run 20 psi front, and 25 rear on my commuter bike because I run fast with cargo. On my city bike, I run 18/20 and don't stress about it. Makes for the best compromise of rolling resistance and cush for me. Because I'm a big guy, I wouldn't go below 15...

Why Container Ships Can’t Sail Around the California Ports Bottleneck

Headlight upgrades for ebikes with stock headlights?

Certainly safer than potentially voiding your warranty, but if that's not an issue for you, tapping into a 48v line is not that big a deal if you or a trustworthy and capable friend can splice and solder a quality connection. Don't use blade style taps or economy twist/crimp connections in a...

    Rize RX advanced settings

The Ultras don't allow the level of adjustment through the display like the older ones and the hubs do. You need to use the little app utility, but if yours is a new 2021, they are using a different protocol (Canbus), and won't accept the old interface. Different cables and software. Sounds...
