Rack options on a Giant Fathom Hardtail eMTB

Just gonna chime in that I have a full suspension with dropper and I tried both the topeak tetrarack and the old man mountain. The old man mountain is superior in every way and well worth the money. The topeak terearack is held in place with velcro and flimsy hardware...its no comparison.

Thoughts on securing a bike using rear suspension

I have reached the sad conclusion that : 1) A $10 set of allen wrenches will let the thief quickly strip my bike of its components, or 2) The thief can quickly saw my frame, defeat the lock, and sell it for components. Really the only solution is not to leave it out-of-sight for more than 3...

Am I crazy to carry a 12 pound security chain around with me?

I can't imagine a cable lock that is stronger than a chain...what are you using?

First good crash and burn today thank you doggy.

I keep a 10 ounce can of counter assault bear spray mounted to my handlebars for easy access in case of a wild dog attack.

Am I crazy to carry a 12 pound security chain around with me?

This is exactly why I am going for a long chain. These typical bike racks are quickly beaten with a grinder because they are stationary and mounted to the ground. If I can wrap a 5 foot heavy chain around a big tree, I am not worried about the thief sawing down the tree. A 12mm chain like the...

Am I crazy to carry a 12 pound security chain around with me?

Where I ride, there are no bike racks for U-Locks. I got the Abus bordo folding lock, in its longest length, but I find that useless in practice. I was going to buy an Abus 12mm (1/2") security chain, in a 5 foot length. This should let me chain up really anywhere, mainly to trees. With the 5...

Looking for full suspension for trail and street

This was what I wanted too - A full suspension comfort bike for riding the rail trails in all weather conditions. I quickly realized that there were only a few bikes that existed, and they were very expensive (Riese and Mueller, Bulls, etc.) I realized that my best option was to buy a full...

    Laying an ebike flat

I'm confused - are you worried about getting rear ended with the bike in the bed of the truck, or that laying the bike flat for the ride might damage the components?

    Laying an ebike flat

So I tried this out today. Would be nice to leave the bike frame under the tonneau, out of sight for a long drive. I would need to take both of my wheels off to get it flat on the truck bed. I have the bike positioned derailleur up, and the fork oriented so the front brake rotor is up as well...

    Pragmasis Protector Chains?

I was looking at buying one of these cables. Do you think they are more secure than a heavy 10mm or 12mm security chain from Pewag or Abus? How much do they weigh? Do they collapse easily into your pannier?

    Abus vs. Pewag Security Chain

Tell me more - how long is your chain? Too heavy to carry in a rear pannier bag?

Solution for turning truck tailgate into bike repair stand?

Basically I am looking for a solution that I can take on and off the truck quickly. I don't want to have to bolt anything into the tailgate. I just want to get both wheels off the ground by a few inches, with minimal lifting effort. I won't be doing any real maintenance out on the field, so no...

    Laying an ebike flat

Not to hijack this gentleman's thread, but... While I am thinking about it, I would need to take off both of my wheels to lay my bike flat under the tonneau. The handlebars would also be rotated horizontally, so really the left pedal and the fork would be the only thing contacting the bed...

    Laying an ebike flat

I don't think there is any need for any fancy rack if you have a flatbed truck. Just leave the wheels on, stand the bike upright in the bed, and use two or four ratchet straps to strap it to your tie-down posts. This is the cheapest option If you are transporting multiple bikes in a ridgeline...

Solution for turning truck tailgate into bike repair stand?

Hi all, I'm looking for a simple solution for getting my bike a few inches off the ground while out of the house in order to get the wheels and racks on and off, and do very light cleaning/tune ups. I was thinking there has to be some simple way to make use of my trucks tailgate. Short of...

Locks and Security Solutions for Electric Bikes

Do you guys think a Pewag 10mm chain will be thick enough to secure the bike for quick stops, or should I go for the Pewag 12mm chain?
