There is a big difference between maintaining the battery level in a phone and charging it. From what I understand, it will just barely maintain the phone battery if you are running apps while riding.

You trusted them when you bought the eBike, just be patient. These companies have little staff to save you money on a purchase. If you would rather pay more for the eBike, I'm sure they would hire more employees.

The best way I did research was go to bicycle shops and ride. You get one that fits and has the features you like. No comparison to how much easier it is. I drove over 200 miles each way to do that, well worth it.

Is the motor completely dead, or will it shudder a bit and then dead? I had one where a hall sensor failed at 1,700 miles. I could boot it up and push the throttle. It would do the shudder and die.

Don't just look for a belt drive, look for a Gates belt drive. Cheap Chinese belts are showing up in the low end eBikes.

If there was enough dirt on the magnets to upset the magnetic field, the motor would never run. I suggest you check every connector. Cutting out can easily be an occasional open circuit.
