    Passed on a Dragster!

The cx motor was incredibly versatile - back in the 80's we rode a cx 650 two up in a blue light rally . It was a dirt bike ride that attracted about 1000 trail bikes. We'd come across greasy rutted out hills covered in stranded dirt bikes spinning wheels ....plod up next to them on the mighty...

    Passed on a Dragster!

I recently passed on a nice black moto guzzi griso, it'd been sorted out by the Australian guru ,and the price seemed fair, but there was another one for sale elsewhere . Both the guzzi guru AND his business partner told me to buy the other bike!!! This is what I ended up with.

PROOF You Don't Need a [tent] Footprint!

Child 1 was borrowing a tent on the weekend a d it started the usual discussions - why so many / how long do they last etc. It was enough for me to reflect on just how good an investment a tent is! My wife recently retired her original light weight mac pac - 35 years old! The titanium poles...

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

So there is definitely a difference between US SUV and the rest of the world! As an example, a jeep compass would just scrape in as a softroader / suv but the cherokee is considered a luxury 4x4 ( admittedly they all get serious $ thrown at them before getting dirty) I understand the...

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

Reading some of these responses, I wonder if the US has a different understanding to the rest of the world re the automotive suv ? We refer to them as soft roaders, as opposed to off roaders. Pretty much anything from subaru would be an example. Most have insufficient ground clearance or...

Ah, so THAT'S what's holding me back!

Nah, it's geography - I'm still looking for that 60 km downhill track

    Li-Ion observation

Which DOES NOT help when the car is parked up the top of heart attack hill because you've been shuttling the kids all day! The giant drops back to low output, and a few minutes later stops.

    Li-Ion observation

I managed to get a giant battery to switch itself down due to heat on a measely 40 c day (104 in ancient speak) . Admittedly I was repeatedly climbing 350 m over 3.5 km at pull power....

Recommended air pump to carry on bike

With hot showers, a flushing toilet AND someone else cooking dinner I thought the place was pure luxury! Admittedly we'd just come from a week camped on the coast in the francois peron, and we were heading into the east pilbara . We'd spend one right restocking in carnarvon - NEVER again...

Recommended air pump to carry on bike

We came across a few cars with flats near there ( heading to mt Augustus) - they had all shredded the tyres by the time they stopped. Not a good place to be sourcing new tyres!

    A 27.2 mm Electronic Dropper Seat-Post. Ideas?

If you get a chance, ride a bike with electric shifting or a higher end lever / mech / cassette. My giant has an m5100 lever but xt mech, it is perfectly adequate ....but you change gears a lot when riding and I realise that when getting back on it . This might be a wear and tear issue - I hate...

    A 27.2 mm Electronic Dropper Seat-Post. Ideas?

I wouldn't have a clue about gravel bike gearing, sorry

    A 27.2 mm Electronic Dropper Seat-Post. Ideas?

He has 3 choices if the extra cables don't fit 1 wireless SOMETHING - personally , I'd go wireless shifting and run dropper cables through the port instead of shifting cables . Ie spend the extra $ on something that enhances the riding experience. We're getting lots more choices in wireless...

    Brake squeal

There is a black powdery compound you can put between the pad and caliper on really difficult brakes . Sorry, I have no idea what it is ( my friendly lbs just put some in a ziplock bag for me) . I've only needed to use it on one bike and I suspect this bike had a faulty shimano mount at the hub...

    Brake squeal

Sorry if this is telling you how to suck eggs, but this is my approach: 1 clean the disc ( I use metho / alcohol and 2/3 seperate paper towels -it's REALY important to be able to spin the wheel as you clean so you clean evenly) 2 bed the disc in - ie ride for about 5 mins lightly dragging the...

    Brake squeal

If you get nowhere with the usual clean / bed in / re alighn things, and it's worse after being on the car hitch, it might be worth reviewing the set up - any contamination of disc / pads can contribute to noise, including exhaust fumes ( especially diesel ) . Unfortunately, even a goid clean...

    Specialized Turbo Levo

IF the magpeds don't work for you, try swapping those stamps for some alloy one ups ( nb ally, not the composites) Every time I ride my middle childs bike with stamps I'm left wondering why they are so popular

    Specialized Turbo Levo

I looked into them a few years ago when my kids reached the skill level that most riders were going clipped in, but both decided they liked NOT being clipped in for technical riding. At the time, I figured the magnetic versions might help then transition. Everyone I asked was critical, but I...
