    The transition

If we plant enough, and if we keep them alive for 20 years. That's about when newly planted trees cover the carbon cost of planting them, and become a net carbon sink. (But a forest is forever !)

I want the robots to clean the bathrooms and dig the mines, so we can make the art, music, and books . Not have the people doing the dirty and dangerous work, so the robots can stay busy plagiarizing all the existing creative works. That isn't the plan that we seem to be on, either. I am...

Yep. That scares me if I think about it. We have quite a few people flying ultralights ( essentially a parachute, a rotor, and an ICE engine) around here, and the slightest weather issue seems to ground them all. What if they had to qet to work or an appointment? They would be falling from the...

For Those Of You With Handlebar Mounted Mirrors, One Mirror Or Two?

Just one like all the above commentators. Two wouldn't fit between a lot of bollards (?), If that's the word for those posts that keep cars off the trail.

Indeed. I am also a solar enthusiast, but the first thing you need to do in any home PV install is cut consumption first. That's true for the whole society.

Exactly. But "they" are not interested in raising that labor intensive organic sweet corn for people ... especially if there are subsidies available for ethanol.

I've heard of farmers over here that overbuilt arrays expecting to sell excess to rhe grid getting less money than expected and turning to bitcoin mining to make up the shortfall. Yeah, that helps the climate...

    The transition

Solar or wind plus battery storage is like the new plastic ... soon enough to be found everywhere ... and most of that power will end up wasted, just like most of today's power is wasted on trivial uses. See @Mr. Coffee post above about A.I., but energy waste is everywhere in the cities, and...

    The transition

A.I. ( especially self driving cars and trucks) is another huge part of the transition that we aren't really ready for, but is happening now. Think about the amount of battery power needed for an A.I. based city to run for three or four days of no grid power .

    The transition

Indeed. We saw that happening with the actors / writers strike regarding A.I. scraping "content " ... automatic plagiarizing.
