Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

No, a cover is bad for aerodynamics and would increases the movement of the hitch due to wind buffeting. Just cover the electronic parts with something if it rains.

Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

It is rated for 200 lbs. I put my MD 1000 70lbs and my wife's ebike (60lbs) on it with no problems. It's easy to load (if you can lift them) and worked well for me on a couple of 500 mile trips. Take off the batteries and you'll be fine.

Yes, it did the job and it is by far the best bang for buck rack for these bikes.

Both water bottles keep falling off my Superdelite

I would think the screws are longer, but the pegs would be the same? In any case, your issue with the included Fabric water bottles is exactly why I did not, and will not order the front rack. Well that and the fact I'm a daily rider, not a bike trekker so I don't need that much storage...

Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

Unlike the Sturmey Archer, the Kindernay was designed for ebike use. As tykoehn said, it has the highest torque rating of any IGH so theoretically it should be a good match for Ultra motor equipped ebikes. While it has it's good points, the MD 1000 is a a bit of a Frankenstein bike with many...

Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

I'll chime in here once. As for the Kindernay, this video is very instructive. I don't see ever using the cage swapping feature and don't like the two shifter setup of the Kindernay. At that cost, and considering Rohloff's maturity as a very reliable IGH, it seems the better value and a safer...

    Riese & Müller Delite review

Good suggestion. I try to stay in Tour mode as much as possible and that extends the dual battery range out to approx 80 miles. I may keep an eye out for a 3rd battery and do some longer faster rides using more Sport and Turbo. Fast is fun ... :-)

    Riese & Müller Delite review

Hi temp ride. Although I rode early, it topped out at 111 degrees yesterday and the large insulated Fabric bottle was needed. That was a 50.3 mile ride with 6-7 miles on single track trail and jeep road around a lake (85% Tour mode). It took me 2.3 hours to complete with an average cadence of 80...

    Superdelite Bosch Battery Rental/Purchase

I have no experience with this, but couldn't you ship your batteries to your first destination and then ship them back at the end of the trip (you can find some info on packaging here)? They would need to be properly packaged/labeled as I have had ebike batteries air freighted from the factory...

Both water bottles keep falling off my Superdelite

I assume you are talking about the Fabric water bottles (they are cageless) since they are the ones R&M uses and the only ones that fit the mounting pins on the Delite bikes. I have the standard size that came with the bike and a larger 22oz insulated Fabric for summer use and have found them...

Why did you buy a Riese & Müller?

We are on a nice getaway trip to the Northern California coast with our bikes this week. There are some terrific bike riding roads/trails around this part of the state and today I found an amazing trail in an area appropriately called "Islands in the Sky". I started off on an old fire road that...

That ^, is taking the bull by the horns .... well done! The Rohloff is in another league and apparently they will be offering that IGH on the Bikonit and Factory direct MD 1000's. I have to say, for the Ultra motor, I think the SRAM is a very good choice. It's $2K cheaper and much easier to...

Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

That mirrors my experience and I'm glad you are back in the saddle. It is obvious that the Sturmey Archer 5 speed IGH is not suitable for ebikes. I was warned and stubbornly refused to heed the warning and paid the price. At least I developed a riding style that allowed me to put over 2K miles...

Why did you buy a Riese & Müller?

The R&M was the 8th ebike I purchase in the last 18 months. The first few were "experimental" and were on line orders of relatively inexpensive ebikes. Several went to family members and friends, I sold one and 4 remain. That includes 2 that I ride, one for the wife and one for friends/family to...

    Anyone have Squeaky Crank?

Personally, I would love to build my next house. I have the requisite skills and have the time but alas, I'm too old. Perhaps I'll start a thread here in the R&M section to kick off that scintillating discussion ...

    Hi

That is unfortunate on a lot of levels. I too had COVID but with little or no health related effects. Your weight puts you at or above the limit most bike frames can handle and when combined with your above average level of fitness, bad things can happen. Being 6'5", finding a bike that "fit"...

New Delite Mountain Rohloff E14 issue..

Clearly, there are issues when diagnosing odd noises from a new ebike and frame resonance makes that more difficult. Mine had a tick tick tick sound that was very annoying. I found one other post from several years ago that described the very same thing but no one responded to that post and so I...
