    Quietest motor?

My Ariel Rider C class has a Tongsheng motor. It is very quiet. In fact, I hardly notice it.

I would love some suggestions for the right e-bike for me

Many on this forum will say you need a throttle. Well, I have one, and never use it (it's set up to work only on Pedal-Assist 0, whereas I almost always ride in PA 1 or 2). FYI, I am 86 years old, and ride a step through (Ariel Rider C class). I like the bike a lot, except for the seat tube...

    Decathlon.pl Selling Illegal E-Bikes

I was never a good downhill skier because I have an instinctive conviction that gravity is my enemy, not my friend.

    E-Bike Navigation

Unfortunately, as I age my navigational instincts on land are going to hell. I fear it will reach the point where I go to the bathroom at night and can't find my way back to the bedroom. Would a GPS help in this situation? Don't know yet how this deterioration might have affected my navigation...

Propane's energy density is less than gasoline. I converted a rototiller to propane (with a purchased kit) and it had less power than before.

    Decathlon.pl Selling Illegal E-Bikes

REI started as a small retailer of hiking, climbing, and camping gear many years ago in Seattle (I remember being in their store, located in a basement in the downtown area). Their trend the last 20 years or so has been toward clothing, some of it aimed at outdoor activities, some of it toward...

[confused] Torque sensor, gear ratio, pedal assist

My Ariel Rider C class claims to employ both cadence and torque sensing. I definitely feel a surge of power when I suddenly increase my leg input. But that surge seems very brief--just one or two rotations of the crank.

Gas powered generators are highly inefficient. But I wonder how efficient a natural gas fueled generator would be? There are such things.

    Electric Car thread

Good point. Since my house is not on fire, why should I pay for the fire department?

    Electric Car thread

It's high voltage that kills, not amperage. You can touch the terminals on a 12 volt, high amperage car battery without harm.

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

I suggest that leos make bad decisions too often because with the unabated flow of guns in our society, they expect everyone they encounter to be armed. In other words, they are scared.

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

I would I I assume that if you sit in a "smoking" booth, you are required to smoke. Which reminds me of the time when we asked for non-smoking in a restaurant, and were seated in the back by the garbage cans.

Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

I once saw a fragment of a movie on the tv of a plane (prop plane, so you know the vintage) with the passengers all stirred up over something. A drunk pulls out his revolver and starts waving it around, making threats. The stew pleads with him to please put his gun away, and is finally...

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Our town tried the red light cameras a few years ago, and had to pull them out due to bad drivers protesting them. I see red light runners all the time.

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

No offense, but this query sounds like a quest for confirmation bias. I'm guessing you already have a hub motor bike, and want reassurance that you made the right choice. Or not.

    Kindernay goes Kaput

My Ariel Rider C class has a Nexus 7 IGH, which has given me no problems whatsoever. It works via a twist shifter, which also has been flawless. I hope I don't ever have to go back to derailleur again.

Fast Ebike - Loud Wind In the Ear - Hearing Loss?

Lucky you. When I was in the army (61--63) they did nothing to protect hearing for us grunts. Not that I was subjected to a lot of gunfire--being a clerk-typist as I was. But I have had plenty of exposure to power tools, including chain saws. But after the horse was out of the barn, I did start...

Horn, Bell or Voice, how to warn others of your presence and intentions

Long ago, a leper could clear the way by shouting "unclean, unclean." Don't suppose that would work as well nowadays.
