Rant, Complain, Just Let It Out In Here. Others May Sympathize

For a ped, the way to be grounded is to wear a short (1 to 2 feet) piece of chain attached to your ankle. Just like tanker trucks do going down the highway.

    Cycling Shirt.

That reminds me of a story in "The White Lantern," a book about Antarctic explorations. A couple of scientists have gone on a trek of several days to collect penguin eggs. On their way back, one of them (while they are camping) falls into a crevasse. "I say old chap, I seem to need some...

Rant, Complain, Just Let It Out In Here. Others May Sympathize

Your overuse of "quotation marks" makes my knees ache. Normally I wouldn't say anything, but this is a rant thread.

    Too mullet?

It looks like he's just taping over the rivets, but I suspect the engine cowling will fall off if he doesn't tape it. Probably a Boeing engineer trainee.

I rode it around the block, no one mocked me.

Have to disagree. Popeye #1, Bugs Bunny a close second.

Unsolicited comments about your ebike lately?

Fairly often I see (in my helmet mirror) someone of either gender overtaking me, and almost always they're on an acoustic bike. Probably if I were to raise the e-boost from level one to 5 (I think I have that many levels), I could match them for speed. But what the hell, I'm 86 and no longer...

Unsolicited comments about your ebike lately?

Locally (Bellingham) we still have a predominance of analog bikes. Most of the ebikes I see are throttled fat tire bikes.

First e-bike for a 68 year old - buying help needed

That's a good looking bike, and it satisfies most of your wants. I notice they are cagey about weight, however, which in my suspicious mind means it's quite heavy. Very similar to mine, an Ariel Rider C Class, also a step-thru (and over 70 lbs). The Shimano Nexus 7 is an internally geared hub...

    Right of way question

Washington State law now allows bikes to run stop signs (not lights, and of course we don't have the right of way). I now do run stop signs routinely, after checking for auto traffic.

    Right of way question

We do have at least one bike lane that is clearly marked two-way. But that one is the only one I am aware of. It is wide enough to easily accomodate pedalers going opposite directions. Peds with children and dogs like to stand in the middle of it, oblivious to any approaching bike, however.

    Looking for opinons

I like seeing a bit of myself or the bike, as this gives me a sense of distance relative to myself/bike.

Unicorn search? Off-road fat step-through + internal hub?

The Nexus 7 hub on my Ariel Rider C Class (w/ Tongsheng motor) seems quiet. Also, I find it reliable and maintenance free. There is a Nexus 8 too.

"Best advice for new ebike riders" from us

I think the phrase "calculated risk" applies.

Are all Bosch mid-drive systems Class 1 only and... is that good or bad?

An internally geared hub would also have solved her problem. I am done with derailleurs.

    The transition

What a bunch of morons. In what way are those people harmed by the existence of an economical car?

    Smart helmet?

I borrowed a smart helmet, thinking it might raise my IQ. Didn't work. At the end, I was a dumb as ever.

    Show Us a Tool

I heard that long ago they were using black gum (eucalyptus) for RR ties in California. Apparently they all rotted out in a year or two. For supreme rot resistance, black locust is hard to beat.

    Dutch Police not messing about.

15 or 20 years ago, Bellingham imposed a pretty strict pedestrian privilege in street crossings, even where there are no crosswalks. This was actively enforced for a few months, then enforcement slacked off. Interestingly, the newly-learned habits seemed to stick, and drivers now almost always...
