2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

In rural areas here (Washington State, and especially east of the Cascades) gates often have an open grid of steel bars to discourage livestock from moving through. When a local politician learned that the state was responsible for "cattle guards," he was offended that the state was hiring...

    Prodigy V2 Belt CVT Reviews?

I even see youths riding step-thrus. I think it is becoming a non-issue., which is all to the good.

They remind me of the drill cores from testing the bedrock for building a massive structure such as a dam.

    Tube vs. Tubeless on ebikes

Surely higher denomination bills would be superior. Don't cheap out with a dollar bill. Go first class with a Benjamin!

Mid-Drive - Front Tire Wear More than Rear Tire Wear?

Doesn't seem braking would cause even wear all around. I suspect some other factor.

    Yes (AFAIK)

    I like these riding glasses...

I discovered that if I use my credit card with a card reader at a vendor, I can't see anything on the screen because the glasses are polarized.

    trials and tribulations

Replying to my own post which I ran across while browsing in the forum: More on health issues and imminent demise: I'm thinking about getting a tattoo (my first) across my chest in about inch-high letters: DO NOT RESUSCITATE. Also, going on a kayak excursion to west coast of Vancouver Island...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Yeah, my wife laughs when I tell her that. Sometimes a sweet young thing will step up and admire something I'm wearing, or (one time) ask me what to look for in an opera we were attending. But I have learned to "read" the wheels turning as soon as they do that: "Omigod, he's so OLD!!"

    The transition

Another way is to install many small scale facilities that each service a small area. That would make the integrity of a massive grid less critical. Sabotage or natural disasters, such a hurricanes show the vulnerability of the system. Look at Texas, and their messed up power system. Anyhow...

Can't help noticing jet contrails in the 4th image. I've seen such photobombs in Roman costume epics from Hollywood.

    The transition

I've read that the Luddites didn't object to the new tech, they just wanted a piece of the improved production and profit. Of course the mill owners said "Forget it."

Recommended air pump to carry on bike

After about 3 years I finally got a puncture (a little cut, actually), and was able to patch it without removing the wheel. Just used the tire levers to pry the bead loose about half way around the tire, pulled the tube part way out, patched the leak, stuffed the tube back in, and levered the...

    Lubing an eBike chain

If you can't move your cranks backwards due to pedal lock, get a 3rd party add-on kick stand that mounts near the rear wheel, then remove the kickstand located right behind the crank. Lets you rotate the wheel backwards via the cranks for easy cleaning and lubing. My Ariel Rider C Class came...

    Turbo Vado 5.0 Three-year review

I'm with you on IGH. Hope I never have to go with a derailer again. (Ariel Rider C class Step thru mid motor, etc.) I have a hunch IGH is easier on the chain, because it doesn't get flexed side to side when the chain climbs up and down the pyramid of gears.

To the "Karens", and the "Carls" out there😂 Those riding dirty too.

I would think gun owners are the last people you want to piss off.

What is a good Small hybrid car for towing e-bike?

For hauling 2 bikes, it would be best to have a 2" receiver rather than a 1.25". Bikes can weigh over 70 lbs. Of course it helps to remove the battery. I would definitely want a platform type carrier rather than one that suspends the bike from above. You also might look into Harbor Freight...
