    Mastermind display

The temps finally got into the 60s, so I took my Vado 4.0 out for a short spin. I turned on the bike and the Mastermind display woke up -- but only partly. The round icon under the "V" in Vado (left side of display, about 1/3 of the way down) was on (green), but the "record ride" box next to...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Yes, I wouldn't expect you to have a problem with breaking. The worst ones I saw had only about a 2-3% failure rate. Which is not much consolation if you happened to be one of the unlucky 3%, but you're unlikely to run into this problem. Especially with an ebike.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I got myself some 20mm extenders, and I was disappointed that they didn't help much. I still caught my heel on the plastic chainstay cover. Then I realized I tend to rest my foot right against the crank arm! Which kinda defeats the purpose of the spacers. So now I make an effort to keep my...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Ooh that's a great idea @Marcela! I didn't even realize such beasties existed. They even claim it's supposed to help your knees, I assume from the knees-splayed-out situation. My problem is that my heel catches on the plastic guard and snaps the plastic. It's annoying and I'm afraid I'll...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Do you all feel your Vado is well-balanced? I think a properly-balanced / good-geometry bike should "track" well -- in fact many bikes will track straight even without a rider. Just give 'em a push and off they go, all by themselves. Or you can ride them no-hands. I had a Lectric XPremium...

    Ebike class questions

Oh yes, I don't ride 20mph on gravel, seldom even half that. I'd kill myself going 20 on a gravel trail. And I only go 20mph on bike paths when there is no one else around.

    Ebike class questions

I've been enjoying my Vado 4.0. I do NOT like riding 1-2 feet from cars and trucks, so I ride almost exclusively on trails, both paved and gravel. However I just discovered I should have done some better research before I bought ... My city's website says Class 1 and 2 ebikes are allowed on...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I deleted the bike from the app and started fresh, and that worked. I also had to hit the + button to complete the pairing, which the app & bike didn't tell me, whoops. When all else fails, check the manual ... Perhaps. :) I wear US size 13, Euro size 46. My shoe is 13" = 33cm long. I'm...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

No, I'm using the Specialized app. I've got a Vado 4.0. I have some old Shimano shoes with ... Look pedals I think? I was hoping to not need them, or other clipless. I don't pedal hard enough to need rigid cycling shoes. I think my heel is striking in the circled area -- actually on the...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Resurrecting this thread ... I keep hitting my heel on the chain guard. If I make an effort to splay my heel out further then it will miss, but within a few minutes my foot rotates slightly and my heel starts hitting again. Is this common? Any suggestions to "fix" it? I've never had this...

    Specialized app

Hello all, having a few issues with the Specialized app. * Frequently I finish a ride and notice it's no longer recording the ride. Last week I happened to be looking when the app crashed with a "no longer responding" message. Any ideas what might cause that? I'm running on an Android phone...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Yeah, and I posted a question there. They answered and said "if it weighs less than 60 lbs and has a 50" wheelbase it'll work." Hello? I *asked* about the fenders ... I don't see how those hooks would work with the rear fender.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Ah. My brother has a Kuat, but the one he wants to sell to me is a Saris Superclamp EX. And that one has hooks front and rear. https://saris.com/products/superclamp-ex-2-bike

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Hm. I think my brother has a Kuat and I didn't think it would work -- I remember the hooks going over the top-ish of the wheels. That would work for the front wheel but def not the rear. But I haven't seen his rack since last summer so I'm not sure. Hey, new question: last week I got an...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

I'd be a lot more interested in that rack, except I just gave away my old recumbent. 😁 Hadn't considered garage clearance, but I think I'm OK there.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Yeah that would be more awkward than just lifting right into the cradles. Still not as bad as lifting the bike by one end IMHO.

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

Same issue?? I can lift the bike right into a rack. It's right in front of me, very little leverage required. But getting it into the hatch means holding it by one end, holding it out lengthwise, while jockeying it into the hatch. Much MUCH more leverage and effort, unless I McGyver some...

Considering a Specialized, got a few questions

That *is* smarter than taking the wheel off on the ground -- thanks, I'll do that. But levitating the bike into the hatch is still a grunt.
