It's unfortunate that your friend might have to replace the rack on the EQ. But one plus about changing it is the carrying capacity would increase. The weak spot of the EQ is the fender mounted rack. The fender offers lower structural support and starts to flex. or worse, if overloaded. IIRC...

You can still use a seat post clamp with the extra threads. Just mount it above the proprietary Specs clamp but you might have to shim it with a thin strip of rubber.

Were these racks the black anodized or the silver? I've heard the black fades over time.

I used a 31.8mm rack mount seat post clamp and put a strip of rubber between it and the seat post. I had a rubber strip / reducer left over from a handlebar bell that was perfectly sized. It's solid.

It's out of stock on the Specialized site but not necessarily at some bike stores. Leaving it on the site allows folks to do a search for LBS availability.

When I remove the tubeless tire, I first suck out as much fluid as possible with a syringe through the valve stem. This helps to keep the mess to a minimum. YMMV

I didn't find it too difficult, more like challenging. For me, it was learning about the different types of attachments such as MIK, Rack It, etc. and what my carrying requirements such as bags, panniers, etc., would be. I've never had a bike with a rack before, so it's been a learning curve.
