eBikepacking range with trailer vs on-board packs

I have thought through much of what your saying. I vacellate but if the range was similar I might choose the trailer. My wife does photography , I have a pocket drone etc. We would section ride whatever we did using our Aliner as a base, ride 40+ miles then one of us goes back and get the car...

eBikepacking range with trailer vs on-board packs

So I really want to give bikebacking a go. These would be max 3 day 90 mi affairs or 2 @ 60mi. I have two 36v 13ah batteries for my Fat tire. I am looking at a B.O.B. style trailer( Coho) and wondering what range I can expect. These trips would be primary on the rails2trails system and a kinda...

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

Haha, your either being funny or your being "funny". Actually although I'm teasing, mostly, about patches and rockers, there really was (is) a culture surrounding it. Lot's changed since my avitar pic was taken almost 50 years ago (:

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

Exactly. I remember some "issues" over bottom rockers with the very early H.O.G. groups and the "group" that determines who gets one of those lol

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

Hmmmm, curious as to how things go if a group of S.O.B. 1%ers happen to be crossing in front of some Patch holder 1%ers . Haha 🤣

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

That sucker is totally "old school" love it! Don't need logos to ride that. Actually the thought of that amongst a gaggle of commuter and step through eBikes all wearing matching T-shirts makes me grin Lol

    What is a cheap bike?

I keep looking at that Schwinn Tandem on Amazon as a possible eBike project but my wife doesn't trust me on the "front" seat LOL

    What is a cheap bike?

All this illustrates is our car driven culture and our "wide open spaces". Your tandem solution for you and the wife is a feel good moment. Even small towns could implement some change to make bikes more useable for those that live in town and say 1mile out. I guess it will really take a big...

    What is a cheap bike?

I wonder why the Japanese have decided to stay out of the US market? What a perfect wall line for a Honda M/c or Suzuki dealership. I can see it now as dad shops for accessories for his GW his wife and kids are like.. dad? can we, huh, can we? The dealer network is there, in place. What a great...

    What is a cheap bike?

@richc illustrates my contention that low end eBikes ( geared hub drive, 36v, 500w cookie cutter) are good entry level bikes until you put his (richc) and some others serious mileage on the bike. This is where components start making a difference. If it took 1600 miles before I blew up my $200...

How skilled are you in fixing your ebike ?

My problem is lazyness and bleeding or bruising at the slightest impact. That said, I have owned a few maintenance intensive vehicles. A shovelhead and Austin Healey being the two that required effort, as did some dirt bikes. I see my Ecotric as more of a parts replacement exercise than...

I think we are going to be mainstream!!!

I totally agree that weather will effect when bikes are used. When I had motorcycles I rode them in a utility mode ( along with pleasure) when weather permitted and used a car when it was rainy. It seems to me once someone experiences the efficiency of a bike for commuting say 5-6 miles one way...

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

Ecotric's 26" fattie (36v/500w) and their 20" fattie folder ( 36v/500w) are both sub-$1000k bikes that fit alot of eBike riders "real" considerations. By real....100-150 miles a month, mostly bike paths (paved or gravel). I mean eBikes, Motorcycles,Guitar's, Archery etc have folks that eat...

I think we are going to be mainstream!!!

Good article. I think I agree with you and the article. eBikes used in metro areas with a decent path and lanes system would make it a no-brainer.

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

Actually I haven't. The "slog" is huge but I have to think a "bicycle shop" is pretty benign. If that didn't work an adult book store and free pass card to the city council with room enough to expand.... Into a bike store LOL Its nice being too old to even act on a business plan ahhhhhhh:)

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

Actually if you sold it for $600, your out $400. Not a bad price to pay to see if you will enjoy it. If your into a 5k bike and go to sell it for top dollar, your going to be out $1k or more. This is using the assumption the bikes are the consumers first eBikes. Personally if I were a younger...

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

I think you have it on a key point. Knowing what your real needs are will direct you as to how much you need to spend, unbridled emotion and suseptibility to hype will determine how much you spend.

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

I agree with @richc as far as people asking what eBike to purchase. Do the research , read owner posts telling of their experience owning a particular company's product and make your own decision.

Are we getting suckered by online eBike companys?

You are correct, we are feeding this new model. The illusion is having someone to hold accountable, for the need to $ave, even though so many things can go wrong once money has changed hands. I can't imagine any of these companies being able to refund $250k if their supplier can't deliver. If...
