    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yeah I think she must be wrong too. I wonder if when I said ‘unassisted’ she thought ‘power off’ but my examples should have clued her in. I emailed Ridley with the question and told them what TQ support has been saying. I heard their e-astr is coming to the U.S. soon so I hope they will get...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I followed up with TQ asking very specific questions to be sure I was clear, and the same support person replied. I asked how that could be true that the hpr40 would be damaged riding with no support. My examples were: depleting the battery on a long ride but still miles to go, riding over the...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Good point, I didn’t even think of that scenario- a long ride that depletes the battery but you still have miles to go to get home. I’m wondering if the TQ caution I got is actually accurate. I hope to hear more details from them.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Same here. I emailed TQ back asking for specifics on the hpr40 no-assist limitations. I’ll post here if I hear back. In the meantime my hpr50 does everything I want. There’s always the next bike to think about, though!

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I just got a response from TQ to an email question I had sent them in April that included some rather disappointing news about the Hpr40. I had read a posting from a trek rider (with a TQ HPR50 powered domane+ slr) saying his bike store told him not to ride with the assist off because it would...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Yeah, I’m questioning the accuracy of the reporting of the BMC weight. The recently released non powered top tier team machine is 6.6 kg (BMC website number) and the hpr40 motor, battery and cables are claimed to weigh 2.7 kg. That makes 9.3kg or 20.46 lb. I’m thinking the Prototype ebike either...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

BMC has a Teammachine prototype using the hpr40 that weighs 8.5 kg (18.7 lb). That’s got to be getting close to the minimum for an e-assist bike! Scroll to the end of the video for the BMC

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I think we will be seeing more discounted hpr50 bikes. From what I’ve read, TQ is going to concentrate on their two newer motors, the hpr60 and the hpr40. The U.S. trek site now shows their domane+slr 9 and 7 as having the hpr60. They’re using the same 360wh battery as the 50 so it’s probably a...

    Specialized Creo 2 owners

Could be a bad spoke or cracked/stripped nipple. That would be an easy fix and should be able to isolate it by flexing all the spokes. Swapping another wheel in would be a quick way to narrow it down too.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Keep in mind that the predicted range is based on the European rules limiting assist speed to 15.5mph. The reviews point out that the bikes are intended for serious road bikers who will be riding above this speed except when climbing or maybe encountering big headwinds. If these come to the U.S...

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I just noticed trek is starting to use the hpr60 on their domane+ slr models, at least on the U.S. site. I wonder if they’ll eventually have both the 40 and the 60 as options.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

They moved forward with a better product. I think trek and fazua still support the older gen systems, but who knows for how long.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

I’ve read multiple people who have moved from the earlier treks with fazua to the newer TQ versions say that TQ is a huge improvement. More reliable, quieter, smoother power delivery, overall better performance.

    Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Just announced, and Canyon’s high end TQ hpr40 ebike weighs under 22 lbs. Interesting direction for TQ: lower power, smaller battery, no top tube ebike display, hidden assist level buttons, all but invisible. 200 Watts (nominal and peak) and 40nm torque. They’re going for the ultimate roadbike...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

You sure it’s not a rear brake issue or a chain/ gear issue? Take the rear wheel off and you’ll isolate the motor to test it.

Five Ten Trailcross LT shoe opinions

Anyone have experience with the 5 10 trailcross lt shoe? Looking for reviews from users on how it would work for road riding: some stiffness, grip to pedals, comfort, weight and feel, etc. Or any other recommendation for road riding in dry climate. Looking for lightweight, fairly stiff sole...

Riding Shoes; In Search of Something Better *Update!

Stefan, Due to a costly mishap I’m exploring going from SPD cleats and shoes to flat pedals/shoes. I looked into your 5 10 Freerider Pro recommendation and they look good but heavier and more bulky than I need. I only ride on the road so I’d like something light weight and don’t need aggressive...

Riding Shoes; In Search of Something Better *Update!

How do you like the Fox shoes? Im starting to look at flat shoes and pedals for road riding. Are there light weight shoes and pedals out there that work well as a replacement for clipless? for the last few decades I’ve used SPD pedals with the least aggressive mt. Bike shoes for the road. I just...

    TQ Motor efficiency test

Yeah, they claim to have resolved the thermal throttling issues. The hpr60 motor looks the same except it has fins on the bottom for cooling. I have never had a problem with my HPR50 but very rarely use more that half its available power output.
