    Possible downside to speed pedelec / class 3 / 28 MPH ?

It's fine for an electric bicycle to be able to achieve full road speeds safely, but in that case it should no longer legally be a bicycle and should be regulated with licensing and insurance requirements equivalent to a scooter or small motorcycle. It would be safer for everyone, as travelling...

    My daily commute

Lots of info on this site about battery life, but in short: if you charge every night but only charge to 80% of full, the battery life will be extended by 10x or more. Here's a cheap way to accomplish this task...

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

Hi @Asher, Amazon delivered this last night, so I just tried your suggestion. The answer is 'nope', just one active button at a time. I don't really feel the need to hit 80% exactly each time so I still think this will work fine. Your idea has saved me over $300, so cheers to you! There...

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

Thanks, I didn't know about Luna's product. My battery has Rosenberger connector so it won't work for me, but seems like a great option for shark/dolphin pack owners.

E Bike for small woman - NOT a cruiser

Both good points. I'm planning to purchase one as soon as details and availability are announced; it's for my wife's Rivendell which she does not want to modify (but would definitely benefit from a 'helping hand'). Earlier test versions of the SR garnered many positive comments, but as with...

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

Nice! If I find I need more precision than 2/4/6 hours that looks like a great option.

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

@Asher - thanks so much for this idea! I was searching for info here on the Satiator (even though my new Specialized Turbo comes with a very nice 4A charger) because I would like to treat the expensive battery gently. I came across another timer from the same company which I think will be...

E Bike for small woman - NOT a cruiser

Which is exactly why I suggested the ShareRoller. It's a quick mount/dismount solution that requires no permanent changes to the 'host' beyond attaching a small bracket to the headtube.. You could convert either bike between electric and traditional in 60 seconds. Not trying to pressure you...

E Bike for small woman - NOT a cruiser

I have high hopes that the upcoming ShareRoller is going to be a quality solution for people that have bikes they already enjoy but want to quickly add (and remove) pedelec assist. It's a kickstarter project that has had a very long gestation period but is finally coming to the market in...

    nexus 7 sp

The 7-speed is supposedly the most reliable of the Shimano IGH line. I've been commuting with one driven by a BBS02 for 4 years. Perfect for the street, never find myself in need of more gears. Being able to shift at a standstill is a great luxury in city traffic.

ShareRoller - Quick and Dirty Electric Bikes

I would be OK with a retail price in the $1200 range, which would be very competitive with high quality kit conversions. $2k would be a tough pill to swallow.

    2017 Urban Max Tire?

Hey Folks - I am considering buying a 2017 Urban XL. For current owners, does it look possible to fit larger tires with the fenders still in place? 650b 2.0's are fine, but for ebikes I am in the 'bigger is better' camp. Thanks, Pocomo Arlington, MA

I Am Buying An Electric Bike...

Since you already have a bike you like, check out the ShareRoller forum here. It's an easy-on/easy-off 750w friction drive unit that is shipping next month. Won't be cheap (~ $1200) but seems to me like a good way to get started and easily returned if you don't like it. If you're truly...

ShareRoller - Quick and Dirty Electric Bikes

All these changes look good to me, but one thing is not mentioned: how will the wireless units get recharged, and how often will that need to happen? The PAS sensor looks cool (and very innovative) but how much battery could those tiny units contain?

ShareRoller - Quick and Dirty Electric Bikes

Totally agree. I have a bicycle I really like, and would love to add assist to it without affecting it's basic goodness. All of the e-bikes I've ridden (including mine) just weren't really excellent bicycles, and for 3x - 4x the money of a really good pedal bike. It's been such a long wait...

money not an issue quality is

If you're considering that ebay gizmo, you might as well consider going straight to a road-legal electric motorcycle: Zero Motorcycles. Harley claims they will be releasing a full electric bike in 2019 as well.

money not an issue quality is

I'm bummed that you don't find the super commuter to be a quality machine. Care to elaborate? I agree with @J.R. that more info is needed on the question, but it's a very interesting one to raise.

Raleigh Redux IE 2018- my review

@Carterk - Thanks for your helpful post. I've been idly considering this bike for my commute and now have a good reason to go take a test ride. Regarding speed: I have several decades of road bike experience (now on my 4th season of e-commuting) and I consider biking in urban traffic at 25+...
