    New wheel size?

So we're talking about 750d's? What benefit does a slightly larger wheel diameter have on an ebike that's (respectfully) less than optimal gravel bike? I can see a benefit of having a slightly softer wheel (that doesn't transmit quite as much harshness to the handlebars) from the longer spokes...

How is purely torque-sensing PAS actually implemented?

More uninformed drivel ... that would be news to the 10s of thousands (Bafang, Tongsheng, etc.) mid drive based bikes with a throttle.

How is purely torque-sensing PAS actually implemented?

Stephan, I can't believe after all this time you still have these outdated and incorrect assumptions and make absolute statements that suggest one configuration is good and the other is bad. The comments above about cadence PAS and the TMM4 torque sensor apply only to the particular ebike setups...

Solved but now more EV than eBike

First trike I've seen with a mid motor ... and I've recently seen quite a few sporty/cool looking trikes locally (go figure). I also like how there's no fender supports on the outside of the rear wheels. 1300 watts on board? Even just using the thumb you won't be charging up all the time...

Canada to restrict class 3 ebikes to 20mph

This is exactly how I ride in the same circumstances. It really illustrates the value (and safety) of a throttle equipped bike ridden intelligently with a reasonable top speed (and in light of the original topic of this thread no I don't think limiting to just 20mph is reasonable).

    My Grin Giant

30lbs might be possible ... but it will obviously depend on the starting point. Grin's new 340w bottle battery, Bafang 3xx hub motor (front or rear), BaseRunner controller a CA with MFS, PAS disc/sensor and some wiring is going to be 12-13lbs. You'll also need to get creative in the...

    My Grin Giant

52v, Phaserunner, and a GMAC ... I'll bet it moves really well. I hope you keep those V brakes and pads in good condition. I like the CA mount out in front of the stem. I did much the same for my builds, only I used a minimal setup with a U shaped strip of metal and one pair of bolts on the stem.

Phaserunner V6, PAS, CA3 & GMAC (Grin) settings help: power cutouts under high load at low speeds.

    1) I'd really dig into the CA and look for any error messages and the ramp of watts used (looking for a specific point where it reverts to 0W). I'd also put a meter on the battery connections and look for the possible voltage sag mentioned under load. 2) When you connected the throttle did you...

How much do the lightest e-bikes weigh?

Yes but I think "just" 350w of battery goes a lot farther (or is a lot less of a concern) on a 36lb bike with no throttle and good gearing as compared to heavier ebikes with more motor and a throttle that aren't as rider oriented.

e-bike front wheel wall hanger set ups - show me yours!

I've used the large (3/8" I think) padded hooks and simply installed them into exposed studs at a height that holds my ebikes against the wall with most of the weight still on the rear wheel. Ideally this works best on a bike without a rear fender but in the case of one of my bikes with...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

Tom, That's not really relevant (but still impressive) ... the comments were about the startup characteristics and if I remember correctly TS also had serious problems with the early units. But like any effective organization they sorted them out and have a reasonably well respected product today.

    Which colors looks better?

If I could only have two of them ... in an ebike lineup in a bricks and mortar store, I think I'd sell more of the green and grey. If I was selling online only and primarily though my own website I think white and grey. White and grey would appeal to most folks (or more accurately no real issue...

Are inner axle washers on a hub motor necessary?

That all sounds good. As long as it all fits snug without interference (and remember that the fork will compress a bit when the nuts are tightened) you'll be fine. I've experienced this - dropping a motor into the forks sitting upside down, everything looks good and then having a small issue...

Are inner axle washers on a hub motor necessary?

If you are talking about "regular" thin flat washers that would simply behave as a bit of a spacer then no, not having then isn't likely to be an issue (assuming everything like the disc brake rotor lines up properly and nothing is rubbing). But if you are talking about tabbed washers that are...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

I think having an alternative to the highly integrated commercial mid drives is important for a lot of folks. I only wish there was some common control code for these setups. Yes I know that you actually could graft a Grin Cycle Analyst into one of these mid drive setups ... but it's not an easy...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

There are actually many different reasons or benefits of a throttle ... beyond the "don't ever want to pedal" shtick on a Super 73 style ebike. For example in my case I really enjoy riding a bicycle in a traditional manner (ebike or not) at higher cadences, but in and around traffic in my...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

I think the apples to apples comparisons would be more in the $900 range but your point is still valid, is "better" engineering worth twice the price? I guess that totally depends on what you value. The old analogy - do you drive a Chevy or a BMW, and why? Is size, fit and finish important? If...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

Wouldn't it be great if there was a CyC North America entity? A local (west coast) warehouse for the quick turnaround of small parts, a few accessible tech support folks with the Cyc Asia engineers on speed dial/Zoom. The problem is that once the products become popular this model inevitably...

Building A New Wheel Is A Nightmare

Doesn't surprise me ... there seems to be a general shortage of 36h rims in wider (30mm+) sizes from all sources. --------- I'm going to be building up a new hub motor based rear wheel for my day to day bike. Unfortunately it's a pretty big jump to start doing wheels yourself (but relatively...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01, Grin All Axle

Hmmmm, So many interesting things. - power from the 9C motor, and the impact on the ride. I've also been curious about the differences between that direct vs. a geared hub motor setup. - efficiency from the different wheels between the Ogre and BC. Aside from slight differences in rider...
