Your observations are totally correct! I only rode Vado SL 2 6.0 Carbon but I think 4 kg extra for the SL 4.0 is a lot. The big Vado has a characteristic of a commuter. You can feel you move the weight! Nothing beats the Specialized electronics :) Trust me :)
