Stromer ST1 Review - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Thats unfortunate. The Achilles heel of this bike is that freewheel. With 800 miles on the warranty replaced freewheel it is starting to make funny noises - clanking, knocking, and is starting to develop more play. Ugh. I will probably have to going to replace the freewheel about 5 times in the...

Stromer ST1 Review - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I believe the standard freewheel is from Sunlite which under warranty was replaced with the same crappy freewheel. If it continues to be a problem outside of warranty I'll definitely be replacing it with something else.

Stromer ST1 Review - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

2200 Mile Update Summary _____________________________________________ I now have over 2200 miles (3540 km for you metric folks :)). My Stromer has now been through the end of a freezing winter, spring, and now almost through the Summer. The hottest day ridden was 98F and I never had an issue...

Recommendations on rear mounted bike rack?

The city kit is the cherry on top if you get a Stromer! I just wish it wasn't so expensive because it looks the best by far compared to anything aftermarket. The Blackburn racks require braze-on-like attachment points, so something like this is necessary...

Recommendations on rear mounted bike rack?

The city kit is like $400, so that is probably overkill since you already have fenders and lights. I use a Blackburn Interlock rack so I can lock my bags to my bike but any of the new Blackburn racks like the Outpost or Central fit the same. They come with crazy long stays so the rack will fit...

    eBikes on RAGBRAI

I've been doing RAGBRAI (418 mile ride across Iowa, the worlds largest bicycle tour event) for several years and have seen very few eBikes in the past. I saw a Bionix kit on a recumbent last year but that was about it. I saw a ton of eBikes on it this year. I assume largely because of the longer...

So I made the plunge, bought a couple of ST1's

I use something like this to get my rack mounts to work. Whatever rack you use, it will need long stays in order to work though.

Post pics of your Stromer here

I use Ergon GS-2 grips and agree that Ergon does grips the best. No surprise the ST2 uses Ergon grips. Just a warning on the SM3 seat. Its really, really firm. If you haven't already, expect to toughen up your 'bike butt.' After a couple weeks of getting your sit bones used to it, its like...

Poll... How is your Stromer holding up?

My ST1 Elite has over 2,000 hard miles. It gets ridden every day, for 32 miles a day - rain, sleet, and snow. Its seen it all. I hammer the piss out of it all the way to work over some pretty nasty streets. It gets loaded to the gills with commuting crap and now hauls groceries on the weekends...

Post pics of your Stromer here

I don't mind the stock seat but it needed to be a little wider for my sit bones. I went with an Ergon SM3 seat and never looked back. Of course this advice is meaningless since everyone is different. I personally hated every soft/gel/cutout seat I tried. I like my saddles wide and as hard as a...

    ST1 Platinum

Same. I have the Big Bens on now. There is not much puncture protection going on with these. The piece of glass that popped my tire was not that big. When these wear out I'm switching to Schwalbe Marathon Plus as well.

    ST1 Platinum

Amen to that. I've had two flats so far and it is not fun fixing. I bring all the necessary tools with me, so I can do it on the road but its a pain in the a$$. Stromer should have made this part easier. You have 3/4" bolts, two lock washers on both sides, zip ties, a tapered spacer on one side...

Post pics of your Stromer here

I have a seat like this on my mountain bike because it's really useful to lower your seat when doing more technical riding (logs, drops, jumps, etc) then just raise the seat back to its normal position when back on level ground. Don't see the point on a Stromer but maybe DDub takes his Stromer...

    ST1 Elite vs Platinum

This allows you to adjust the torque assist sensitivity. So you can play with the balance of battery range VS power. Less sensitive get more out of the battery but you'll have to put in more work. More sensitive and you'll get more electrical motor power, but battery range will take a hit. Tweak...

    ST1 Elite vs Platinum

If there any Stromer dealers on this board, they may be able to confirm, but Stromer may require it's dealers to sell the product at a certain price point. I only say this because I was working with a dealer on the east coast (will remain nameless) who was cut off after they started selling...

    ST1 Elite vs Platinum

Hello Glen! Your situation is a perfect example of how an e-bike can be extremely beneficial to someone looking to ride again. I myself own an ST1 Elite, which I have ridden just about 900 miles now. I've also test rode 5 or 6 Platinums. I think more information is needed on how you are going...

Stromer ST1 Review - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Amen to that! We had a 40F day here (first day above freezing in a long time) and I saw a noticeable jump in battery life on the morning commute where there is very little wind. I was able to do 17 miles on about 30% charge. My ride home is still a 20-30mph headwind nightmare and that eats the...

BMC Recalls 2013 Stromer ST1 Electric Bicycles Due to Crash and Injury Hazards

After looking into it (called LBS, who contacted BMC), its the same recall just extended into 2014. So if your ST1 has already been checked for the faulty fork, you are OK. No worries.

Is this a new recall and different than the fork recall they issued last year?
