Commuting on an eBike, this is how I do it. Can you?

The biggest advantage for me is I can carry all my stuff (lunch, laptop, clothes, shoes, misc crap) and not be affected by all the weight and still go just about as fast as my road bike not carrying anything. I can smoke my Stromer on my road bike but I can barely carry anything on it without...

    The bike from ... somewhere

It kinda looks like someone melted a carbon fiber bike in the microwave and that bike was the result.

    Bafang and NuVinci?

Congrats on the purchase! I've got mine installed on a Surly LHT and the Bafang on a steel bike is like butter! I think you'll find that the shifting thing is really not that bad. I find it annoying but not so bad that I would drop $300+ on an IGH to get something better. You should eventually...

Who got a new bike for Christmas?

Ohh yeah! BUT the amount of fun depends on where it's used and what the tire pressure is set to. It's dreadful on dry paved roads. I'd never use this thing for commuting. On asphalt the tires make a lot of noise. With the wrong tire pressure, it will feel either like you are pedaling through...

Who got a new bike for Christmas?

After testing riding a bunch from Surly, Salsa, Specialized, Trek, and Borealis I was set on getting something with the Bluto front suspension but the prices at the LBS for anything with a Bluto fork is insanely high. So, I got the cheapest fat bike I could find with a Bluto fork, which was the...

Who got a new bike for Christmas?

I got a non-electric (gasp!) fat bike. I never thought going so slow would be so much fun. I really have no desire to electrify it at this time since I mainly only ride singletrack and there is no snow yet. I'm sure once the snow falls and I'm going 5 mph pushing through 6" of fluffy stuff...

Good choice! If I had to do it all over again, I would just buy the Bafang despite the issues I have with it. My Stromer may be more refined but the fact that you can pick your own bike is the Bafang's greatest advantage. The versatility makes it much better than anything else out there.

Em3ev's standard programming is actually pretty good. It strikes a good balance between range and power. I bought the cable to reprogram the controller from eBay and only changed one thing, which was level 9 is 100% motor power. This is only used in situations where I have to fight a constant...

Can I use my own crankset?

I pray no one is dumb enough to pay for that at that price point. That's almost a $1000 price increase beyond the stardard kit and you are only getting a longer axle and a BB extension collar compared to the standard kit. Save the money and just shave the BB down to 73 mm - this only works on...

    Advice for buying an E-Bike.

Put me in the bucket that hates throttle. I own eBikes with both throttle and PAS only and would MUCH rather ride the PAS only. When done right, PAS provides the best experience for an eBike IMO. The sensors on the bike should know what I want to do (torque sensor, cadence, etc) and react...

Trailer Hitch for Platinum? Standard type or funky?

That's exactly what I did and it was super easy. Mine was for BOB Nutz though. Not sure if the Burley hitch is threaded or you just need the hole bigger. TIP: you can get the drill and tap at Pep Boys for only $5. Took me about 2 minutes to enlarge and thread the hole. Worked perfectly...

If you use the throttle, yes. You'll probably beat most traffic across the intersection. In normal PAS mode, the controller brings the power on more slowly. Acceleration is really good (again, depends on your programmed settings) but shifting with this much power/acceleration sucks. There are...

Can I use my own crankset?

Installing a Bafang mid drive on a fat bike is actually not possible. Most fat bikes come with a 100 mm bottom bracket. The bafang will only fit up to a 73 mm bottom bracket. It can be done but involves a lot of work on the frame.

Can I use my own crankset?

Lectriccycles has them. I think Paul has them to, they are just not on his website.

Can I use my own crankset?

You cannot use your own crankset but you can get a different chain ring. They make Bafang chain rings in a number of teeth sizes. I've seen as low as 42T and as high as 52T. 39T seems a bit low but this depends if you climbing mountains or want to go fast. You can also buy an adapter...

Agreed. Paul is also a great resource to ask questions before you purchase. He may not reply the fastest, but he always replys with a well explained answer.

I went with the 48v 11ah 29E cells paired with a 750w Bafang. I wanted range over power in my budgeted amount. The settings with your controller are really going to drive what battery you'll need. My settings keep the current draw pretty low, and I'm only running at 350w most of the time. This...

Recommendations On an E-bike or a kit?

If you like your cross bike and are not thrilled with the idea of bolting on a DIY mid drive kit, the Bionx kit is probably a good option. As Shea mentioned, the only mid drive kit I am aware of is the Bafang and the Cyclone. They are not that hard to install but I wouldnt call it easy. It does...

    Considering First E-Bike Need Advice

I would proceed with caution. That price seems too good to be true for an entire bike, w/750W kit, w/20ah battery. I also would never buy a bike I could not ride first and since this is so cheap it's probably garbage components & wheels (I dont see anything on the specs page for shifters...

I got mine from em3ev. You'll pay more but the shipping was super fast, the battery is top notch, and they actually have really good customer support that speaks english. I tried several times to go the Aliexpress route and the canned broken English responses to everything was horrible and some...
