From Concept to Prototype: Ultra-Light Ebike Kit for Road Bikes Now in Development!

That's also what we worry about: the noise with the multi-stage gears. We need to confirm that.

To get more torque out of something this small, we need a higher reduction ratio. We're trying out different ideas and building a demo to test it out and see how it feel.

Hmm, I'm not quite following. Are you talking about the clutch mechanism?

Just to make sure I’m following — are you saying that, based on the drawing, the motor might only engage when rolling the wheel backwards, not forwards?

I think a built-in torque sensor is a must. I want the motor to respond based on how hard I’m actually pedaling.

That’s definitely something worth thinking about — I haven’t fully worked out how to handle it yet, to be honest. Just to clarify — what do you mean by 'a custom through axle'? I’m not quite sure I understand that part.

Totally fair point. The idea isn’t to overpower the bike, just to complement it.

I’m planning to mount the battery on the bottle cage and will probably go with a lithium pack. I don’t need that much range cuz I won’t be using full assist all the time or staying in the highest power mode for long. The frame’s not going to crack — like I mentioned before, I’m not after crazy...

The weight and size of a motor are strongly correlated. Shrink the volume, and the weight tends to drop too.

Thanks! Are you talking about the gearbox inside the motor?

Hi everyone, The enthusiasm from our previous discussions about a lightweight road bike-compatible hub motor (targeting bikes like my Scott Addict) inspired my engineer partner and me to take the leap — we’ve built a functional prototype! Why This Matters: There are few ultra-light e-bike...

Still searching for the perfect ultra-light ebike kit for road bikes — here’s the idea in my head

I took a quick look — seems like Ananda actually has more than one motor that fits road bikes. But I couldn’t really find much info on their battery options.

That’s why I’ve been more drawn to minimal, lightweight assist systems — just enough support without compromising the ride feel.

Luna does look pretty stealth — I wouldn’t have guessed it was an e-bike just by glancing. The internal gear hub actually looks really close to what I’ve been looking for.

Totally agree – weight savings are a top priority for road and gravel builds. I’m curious about Hyena’s torque though – judging from the motor size, I’d guess it’s pushing 30Nm or more?

I checked with my friend, and he said the controller might be damaged due to 1. high temperature or water ingress in the controller, 2. motor short circuit, or 3. internal short circuit caused by damaged connecting wires. Btw, what was the torque of the hub motor you used before?

I couldn't find which Trek bike it has collaborated with. Could you send me the link?

Yeah, it's a B2B product. I think lightweight is the future. Right now, there aren't many products that fit lightweight bikes.

If most people like the idea of a lightweight motor, why not develop it? LOL.
