Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Thanks. I’m west of Winchester so as far as I know the WO&D is the closest rail trail to me. I do know the abandoned rail line from Front Royal down the valley through Strasburg and Woodstock along the Shenandoah River has been donated for future development of another rail trail so I’ll be...

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Great, thanks! Are you familiar with the W&OD Trail? If so, is it similar?

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Because my balance isn’t 100% from prior strokes, I prefer a wider crushed gravel or paved surface. We did go on a brief section of the C&O canal path, and the gravel sections seemed more like narrow wagon wheel tracks, and I just was uncomfortable trying to stay in those tracks. I’m fine with...

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Thanks, but I ended up riding the Western Maryland Rail Trail, which parallels the C&O canal, and that trail is all paved. I had to bump it up the pas 2 for 3/4 of it to keep up with my friend on his road bike, but I was pedaling the whole time.

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

I went out to the Western Maryland Rail Trail today with a good friend, and we parked at the Big Pool parking area access, the beginning of this paved bike path. He was riding a slick ultra-lightweight carbon road bike and I was on my fat tire e bike. We rode 15 miles west before turning around...

Pennsylvania Rides | Meetups | Pennsylvania Riders

Which access point is this closest to? I’m heading out to the WMRT Saturday morning with a friend. I’ll throw the Stihl in the trunk just in case. It looks like it would be easy enough to cut the closest limb to the far right, beyond the guard rail, then cut the same limb well to the inside of...

Pennsylvania Rides | Meetups | Pennsylvania Riders

I have a battery Stihl chainsaw. It would be easy to pack along and quiet. Would anyone complain if that tree’s lower branches “just fell” off that access ramp?

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

That is a very good idea. Or better yet, limp in with my leg brace on, in person, and plead my case. (I no longer have much of a noticeable limp when I’m not tired, but it couldn’t hurt!)

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Thanks J.R.! Yes, it is indeed the C&O so I corrected my post. Believe it or not, there is a B&O trail, in Ohio I think. I guess I could teach myself to ride without the throttle, then take the throttle off and throw it in the pannier. But I do rely on it when I hit the wall and push beyond my...

Anyone been "busted" riding a Class 3 bike?

I just posted a related thread. This is a serious question. By law, I’m not permitted to ride a national park bike path in Maryland because mine is a class 3, but I need the throttle assist due to disability to ride a bike:

Question about class 3 bike on Maryland C&O tow path bike trail

Hi folks, I’m planning to drive out to the C&O tow path bike trail in Maryland. Online, Maryland states this bike path is limited to class 1 e bikes with no throttle. My e bike is a class 3 with throttle, which I need to get moving due to chronic weakness in my left leg from strokes several...

    Coffee Technology on The Tour

Yeah, I wanted to get away from the waste and comparative cost of using k cups, as well as the mess of using refillable k cup inserts. The AeroPress fills that role admirably, though I wasn’t impressed with the taste of just using the round paper filters that come with the AeroPress, which allow...

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

My sixteen year old niece has a cottage industry making custom t shirts. She finally got around to making me my e bike shirt.

    Coffee Technology on The Tour

Although I’d never use one for bike touring, I took one of these with me when I drove from Maine to California and back two years ago. I drove 12,500 miles over 9 weeks and camped in national and state parks, and stealth camped at many Cracker Barrels, Lowe’s, Walmart’s, truck stops etc. I had...

Motorcycle carrier as cheap sturdy alternative to bike carriers

My previous vehicle was a GMC Safari cargo van so carrying the e bike inside the van was quite easy and simple. I already had the motorcycle carrier so with this car I just had to get a hitch. Since I can remove the motorcycle carrier from this, I can also use it as a traditional hitch cargo...

Motorcycle carrier as cheap sturdy alternative to bike carriers

Hi folks, I recently picked up a 2009 Ford Crown Vic and money is tight, so I searched Facebook Marketplace for a hitch for my “e bike carrier.” I did find a 2” class III Hidden Hitch for $50 and had it installed and wired at UHaul (another $200.) I had a motorcycle carrier from carrying my...

    Safety charging shrink wrapped battery?

Nice. This was my last Woodstock. The firebox was lined with soapstone and each leg had a huge piece of soapstone to absorb then radiate the heat. I built the hearth and covered it with pieces of slate I cut from several large slabs a patient gave me, and applied synthetic airstone to the hearth...

    Safety charging shrink wrapped battery?

That looks like a HearthStone? I had three different Woodstock Soapstone stoves, including a beta version of one model before it went into production. A close friend had a huge Hearthstone from the 80s that he heated with 24/7 six months a year for 35 years in upstate New York, till it was so...
