    Dropper post

PNW Components as a broad line of droppers and I bought their Loam dropper and had it installed on my hardtail bike. A longer dropper is not going to be a problem but it will not drop down as far into the bike frame which however may be a problem.

    Electric Car thread

We opted for a plug-in hybrid so we could charge it at the house overnight and not rely on charging on the road. It is averaging 99 mpg with our driving around town. Two big advantages of the plug-in hybrid are not needing a public charging station and having a spare tire. Cars like the Chevvy...

    Advice on first e-bike

Bikes on the back of any vehicle are targets for thieves and e-bike insurance is pricey. For our Class C motorhome I bought a platform rack to hold the heavier bikes and planned to cover them with an bike cover and a cargo net over the cover with bike cables locking the bikes to the RV frame...

What Are Your Tips & Tricks For Changing a Tire After it's Off the Bike?

There is no difference between the rims and the tubes and the tires on my e-bike as compared to every other road bike I own. What I do is avoid tire levers and use only my hands to take tires off and to put them back on. I could use soapy water as a lubricant but I have not needed to do so.

What's holding back the e-bike boom? Research, safety, and bias (article)

The auto industry following World War II invested in a company that bought up all the electric street car lines in the nation and then tore out the rails and burned the street cars. They forced people to own automobiles to get to work or school or a park or to go shopping. The U.S. under the...

Do you carry your e-bikes in the trunk of your truck? (Pictures if possible)

All my vehicles have had a cargo space large enough to hold our road bikes with the front wheel left on. This included my 2022 F-150 with a 6.5' x 4' bed that replaced my 2018 Chevy Traverse with its 4x6 cargo area and that in turn replaced a 2011 GM 2500 with its 6.5 x 4 foot bed. It took a lot...

    E-Bike hatred is out there!

Americans like to whine, or winge as the Brits would say. The concept of considering how you got into a bad situation and what you need to do to change it escapes most people. There is a phrase with treatment of drug problems referred to as 'pulling a geographic' where people think that moving...

Giant No Longer a Value Brand? A Tale of Two Similar E-bikes, Two Years & $900 apart

Makes no sense to compare a Giant that is available to purchase with a Yamaha Civante that is not available to purchase from a local bike shop. Cost have risen tremendously in the past 18 months as a result of the monopoly on ocean shipping that has increased rates by more than 300%. A container...

    SL Range Extender 'Range' Considerations

It is being assumed that using the RE battery increases the life of the built-in battery and there is not information to support this. Leaving the main battery at full charge for months at a time may be harmful. Apple with its laptops and iPhones will disallow warranty coverage if the devices...

Changing Creo SL gearing for the road

The CS-800 11-34T 11-speed cassette included a 2.18mm spacer and that was all that was needed for the Creo hub. Different width spacers are provided for 12, 11, and 10 speed cassettes to insure proper alignment.

Will eBikes be banned from Federal lands?

In the 1970's the USFS opened up the roads and trails to dirt bikes of any size an displacement. Many areas allow snowmobiles to roar around during the winter months, even Yellowstone NP. Only exception is the special treatment for horse riders who get to go anywhere at any time and leave...

Proper ebike mechanical and emotor use when riding

Strongly suggest stasrting off with motor off and her pedaling it on level ground to get the feel for the bike. Then when she is comfortable have the motor on but in its lowest assist setting. Starting off with the bike in a high power assist mode can lead to loss of control, especially when...

Changing Creo SL gearing for the road

I ended up putting on a Shimano Ultegra CS-800 11-34T cassette which with the included spacer installed with no indexing issues. Also replaced the wide range derailleur with a medium cage Ultegra 11-speed one that has a maximum cog size of 34T. Shifting is flawless. Not sure if the 11-32T...

Transporting a bike in the rain

A number of good reasons to use a bike cover on the bike while it is on the rack. It will keep it cleaner with less road grime and out of sight of potential thieves. I use one with a cargo net over the cover to keep it together while driving at speed on the highways. Any flapping of a bike cover...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

As an early laptop user I carried around a 25 foot extension cord so I could plug in at airport terminals and coffee shops. Thirty years later that is not longer needed, mostly due to much longer battery life. With an e-bike I would buy a model that would allow me to carry multiple batteries...

When should I charge my battery?

The type of batteries used on most bikes cannot have their healh or SOC measured with a voltmeter. They are designed to provide a high voltage output until they are exhausted. Will Ebikes become a fad in the US?

The e-bike market is confusing with all the drive types and companies changing motors year to year and even model to model and then the electronics controllers that are proprietary.
