Ebike makers: winners and losers in 5-7 years?

I think embedded in your analysis are some interesting bits. You provide a list of 'common internet bikes', which indicates to me that you don't value them much differently from each other. I am not agreeing or disagreeing with this. So say they are competing on price in this case. Wouldn't...

Ebike makers: winners and losers in 5-7 years?

Innovation usually comes from the outside (so not Canyon, Trek, Giant et. al.). I'm guessing Radpower, Vanmoof, and maybe even a present company like Zen (Ravi, I hope you are painting furiously haha!)

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

No, in its present state, I would not suggest going eTouring without a charger. I am talking about a future I could envision with charge stations making chargers superfluous. I can't imagine everyone hauling a solar panel setup (if it works for you, that's great) to get charge.

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

If you look at Kuhmute's setup, they are using an adaptor to charge different devices. True, it's not nearly as useful to have charge stations in cities if you tour outside of cities. But in the cases that people do, you still need the charger and it's adaptor to charge so that's one less thing...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

Kuhmute is another one to look out for. I think the charging is being driven by the bike and scooter share systems. So if you are touring from one city to the next (where these systems are based), you will get charging options shortly.

An open letter from an industry insider regarding eMTB trail access

This view is burned in my mind-grew up riding and loving it! Hope it was a good one. I went there recently and noticed a lot more people out there hiking.

An open letter from an industry insider regarding eMTB trail access

I should clarify, because I was referring to speed capabilities of the bike. I find it reasonable to have speed limitations out on the trails, despite being imperfect at times. For e.g., going 25mph when the limit is 15 in an open and clear downhill, or conversely going 10 when you should be...

An open letter from an industry insider regarding eMTB trail access

I think the best thing to do is to join a group and advocate. If e-bikes bring about a huge wave of new recreation, then mountain biking will no longer be a fringe activity. It will have more people who can voice their opinions and attract public dollars. There will be growing pains, but biking...

    Zen Samurai Diamond

48V is considered 'safe', so I doubt you would see anything greater from a big manufacturer. N.A. market is still dwarfed by Europe and certainly China, so I also doubt they would cater to N.A. desires-which is something I don't think we are used to.

California ebike incentive program for low income residents

This program is still pending so hasn't yet been launched. It stands as up to a $7,500 credit.

California E-bike laws, can they be ridden in State Parks?

Sawyer Camp Trail is a paved trail and it allows Class 1 and Class 2 bikes. My opinion is if you are riding prudently, the maximum capable speed is irrelevant. You can be wreckless at 10mph... See the chart on Attachment 2 on page 16 for what's allowed in the area.

    Announced: Yamaha Civante - 28mph

If you are looking for 1X with a different groupset, check out the Giant Revolt E+. I have one with G Ones and it has its flaws but overall pretty awesome. I still need to get some time in on the Civante. Their display looks beefy but I'm really curious if it's tuned any differently than a...

Avid cyclist looking to reduce ~40 mile round-trip commute time

I think for you to look at Class 3 and dropbars makes the most sense. I was commuting to a job ~22mi. each way pre-covid and charging at work with similar alt. gains. Issue with a lot of these bike models is that they are so new and you don't really know reliability. In fact, going for an...

    Swift Lite

So far I gathered your needs are: $1k range Riding: street, hills, exercise But what are your other needs? How many miles per year? That is a lower-end drivetrain, and I suspect it wouldn't last if you are doing high miles. What would be your avg., min., and max distances in a day? Battery size...

    Why Zen ?

With a generator you lose a lot of efficiency over say a chain (high 90's) and the pedaling experience can be poor. Mechanical drivetrain is still much better. I think the concept is more appealing because it's all electric and seems to complement an e-bike, but in practice it solves for the...
