It is my understanding that 8 speed and 10 speed chains are different widths. That makes the sticker on the chain that specifies both to be confusing. If you have some calipers I would measure your old and new chain widths and compare with the information linked below...

The derailleur hanger in the 5 o'clock position in 1st gear does seem like the existing chain length may be a bit short. What is the hanger position when the bike is in high grade? I would be inclined to try the longer length first to see how the bike shifts. It is a lot easier to shorten...

I found the Gazelle geometry data (see attached). If I am interpreting this correctly this shows minimal difference between the medium and large frame sizes. Also, as @fooferdoggie suggested, the reach could be tweaked with different stems.
