Securing an e-Bike with Panniers Attached

Man, you guys make me feel blessed to live in a relatively safe area. The only bikes that get stolen around here are the ones left unlocked (and sometimes, not even those).

Denver Parks seeks rule making for "e-devices"

Here in Durango (also Colorado, but a much smaller city than Denver!) what seemed to tip the balance a few years ago, in reversing the existing ban on e-bikes on our multi-use trails, was the number of letters to city council that essentially said, "I'm old and the pedal assist lets me remain...

    RadCity or Aventon Pace 500

The Juiced Crosscurrent 2 is also class 3, isn't it? 28mph max according to the link. It looks like a pretty amazing bike for the price, though it is also quite heavy IMO (too heavy for me).

    Back to Acoustic?

I ride both. My errands/town bike is an e-bike and my mtb for fun/exercise is an acoustic. I definitely notice how light the latter is...but then when I'm huffing up a steep hill I joke to my husband (who has the same bikes), "Where's the turbo? My turbo isn't working!" Right tool for right...

Hello from Everywhere! Friends and Visits?

I'm in Durango, so let me know if you come down this way and we can ride - as long as you're okay with me riding an acoustic bike on the mtb trails! (My e-bike is my townie/car-replacement.) Or I will point you to the trails. I have ridden a friend's Haibike mtb and I have to agree, it's a beast.

Securing an e-Bike with Panniers Attached

Huh, I have a similar bike but not a step-through, and I generally use a u-lock around the top tube, though sometimes it takes some positioning. I posted the photo in the "loaded with groceries" thread so here is a link to that picture: (photo of my bike with panniers, locked) If she can't...

    At What Price .......?

Huh, guess they sold out. They will probably get more eventually (I bought a Small, and my husband a Large) but if you're trying to get something soon that's no good, obviously. Priority told me that they sell a lot of bikes through Costco, which yeah, surprised me too, but I guess it works...

    At What Price .......?

Craig, if you are interested in the Evelo Aurora mid-drive, I can recommend the Priority Embark which also has the Nuvinci/Enviolo CVT, has quality components (Bosch mid-drive Active+ motor + battery), weighs much less (45# with battery as opposed to 55# without) and costs slightly less - though...

Is it important to you that your ebike doesn’t look like an ebike?

Haha, this is totally me, too. "Yes, that's my bike, it's an e-bike! Did I tell you yet I got an e-bike? Want to try it out? I love my new e-bike!" I am the opposite of stealth!

    Motor wattage differences question

"If you are confused, that is a sign you are starting to understand how it all actually works in more detail." Hee! (And thanks for the link, that's a useful article. Now we can all learn...watt's up!)

    New Helmet Suggestions

The best helmet is the one you will wear. Go to your nearest bike shop and try some on.

    I hate your ebike...

Fortunately the wake produced in the air by a speeding e-bike is (usually!) not as powerful as that produced in the water by a speeding powerboat!

    Motor wattage differences question

There are also a few mid-drives with belts rather than chain, for longer life and lower maintenance. I have the Priority Embark ($3000 from Costco, a little out of your budget) which has the Gates carbon drive, and I just read a review for the Budnitz Model E which also does (about the same...

Another twist to throttle vs PAS ebikes....Comments wanted...

See the post I replied to (and quoted), emphasis mine: "which assist system would you pick if you could only have one on the ebike. A throttle only or PAS only?" I chose the bike I chose for other reasons, and if it had both, that would have been fine; the presence or absence of a throttle was...

Another twist to throttle vs PAS ebikes....Comments wanted...

Well, for me it would be PAS all the way (which is why that's what I got). I'm a long-term cyclist for both fun and utility. In my 20s and 30s I commuted by bicycle almost daily, year round (in Cambridge MA and then in Boulder CO). For the past 15 years I've worked at home and lived in town...

    The last ebike manufacturing challenge

My husband and I rode our (non-electric) mountain bikes today, and we marveled at how much noisier they are than our nearly silent e-bikes. I think it's the combination of the wider, knobby tires, and the derailleur noise (our e-bikes are chain drive with sealed hub CVT gearing).

Happy Summer 2019 from Northern Virginia!

You were able to find a frame size that fit you out of the box? I had a friend your height back in the 90s and I think he had to go custom for his bike. I expect there's more availability these days. I have the opposite problem, but luckily I'm average-small rather than extra-small, so it's not...

New Priority Embark rider in Durango, CO

Well, that's why there are so many different makes and models - something for everyone. A shame you started out with a bike that didn't suit your needs, but it's good that you have refined your requirements. After (almost) two weeks and about 100 miles I am super happy with my choice - and...

Is there a way to calibrate the Purion?

The Garmins which calculate elevation based on GPS are terrible at it, which has to do with the way GPS works to calculate distances: differences in the plane perpendicular to the satellites (that is, horizontal) are far more accurate to derive than differences in the plane parallel to them...

Is there a way to calibrate the Purion?

Ooh, you know, I've checked the speed against my GPS but not the distance. I should do that. I assumed that the 10% overestimation meant that my "Bosch-mileage" is 10% shorter, but it would be interesting to see if this is actually the case. Though since the Purion doesn't report fractions of...
