    Technology: New Chainless E-Bike

Has this been posted? Seems interesting. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-33151237

Aftermarket Batteries for Bosch Coming in 2015

My guess is that the batteries for Active and Performance are interchangeable and there is some sort of verification protocol. However, unless it's encrypted, someone will hack it.

Aftermarket Batteries for Bosch Coming in 2015

RE; I was told by the battery supplier that the more recent Bosch batteries are individually paired with each drive. hmmm...I wonder that that really means. I have two Active line bikes, and I interchange the batteries between bikes, (and even the head units.) It seems to me I could put these...

    What's the Scorecard on Mid-drive?

Okay so now I read this complete thread. I don't understand how the term complexity is being used. From the consumer view, I turn the mid drive on and pedal. I don't have a front derailleur, so I only maintain a rear derailleur. If I get a flat on the rear tire I just take it off. Less weight on...

    What's the Scorecard on Mid-drive?

Okay I missed this thread. I have two Bosch mid drives...me and my wife. I do some serious climbing with this bike. Overall weight and the fact that the mid-drive won't shut down on the hill is important to me. My wife...well she could use a hub. She basically puts the bike in middle gear and we...

Easy Motion vs Bosch Second Generation Drive Systems

Just to jump in, I use my mid-drive for commuting to work, but I also wanted it to double for exercise. That said, I have the commute to be jealous of (if you can be jealous of having to go to work :-) Downhill to work, uphill home. However, I do need to take it real easy for the last 1/2 mile...

    Vibration at 16 mph

On my bike it happens at 19.5 mph...but the motor is off...it cuts out at 16mph or thereabouts. The vibrations comes up from the pedal on my right side...I think.

    Thudbuster Failure Ouch!

If you Google "bicycle seat post failure" you'll see many failures out there. One could argue that a seat post with suspension should actually put less impact stress on the post. The Thrudbuster is offset and that will amplify the forces at the attach point. All that said, I couldn't find any...

    range test

Well on one of my aggressive rides with +3000' it basically said I would run out in 2 miles after 7 miles up. The next seven miles were basically down and the range started increasing. Sadly, I can't remember when the ride was over, what it said the range was. My commute is 15 miles and I do...

    Thudbuster Failure Ouch!

Oh hi, I have a Thrusbuster and it is doing quite well. Thrudbusters do come with their own seat post. Mine is 30.9mm @JoePah , what size is your seat post?

    Battery charging question

RE: I wonder if there's a risk of damage to the battery... No. Heat is number 1 enemy. In fact, don't charge immediately after riding. Best to charge a cool battery. Try to avoid full discharges and for that matter if you can to two rides and end with 2 bars then charge after 2 rides as...

    Battery charging question

I suppose when the battery is attached to the bike there are some parasitic losses through the motor...hence the topping off phenomena. I see it too. Battery charger might be a little too sensitive.

    inadvertent super power

Interesting....I think we can assume the sensor is not providing any input and the system goes into "limp home mode" which apparently doesn't include the limp! I'll move the sensor on my bike and see what happens this weekend

Is MSRP/MAP holding back ebike sales growth?

@JayVee When you say obsolete what do you mean? That you can get a replacement battery? Or if the motor breaks you can't get a replacement? It will be interesting to see what my bike will require in 3 years from now. I expect I'll replace the battery, but actually I hope there will be a higher...

    Shimano STePS

@PowerMe - Point taken, I guess there are a lot of manufacturers. @J.R. I wish somebody would post a youtube video of a Bosch teardown. But if I need new bearings, no place to order. BTW I have yet to hear of anyone doing a teardown of the Bosch motor. I asked on the Pedelec forum, no...

    Shimano STePS

Are there STEPS configs that can act as a normal bike without the battery? Personally, I think requiring a battery is a bad idea, actually really bad. Simply forgetting to charge your battery could screw-up your plans, never mind all the other issues that can occur. I want to see more...

Taking the Bosch motor down to 0 range....

Interesting: I assume you have Bosch Performance line. I have Bosch Active Line. I have 15 mile roundtrip with about 500' I go 2 trips before before charging. I think I could go 3 trips. I tend to put it in Tour mode. Since mine cuts out at 15 mph, it isn't active that much going to work...

So, now my bride wants one too

Sounds like the perfect plan. Edit: remove [Don't forget the test rides. ] I didn't read your post carefully enough. However when my wife was test riding I had to keep biting my tongue to keep my mouth shut, basically I let the bike dealer and her interact.
