    New Trek e-Bike?

Agreed. Path+ is cheaper, Dash same price. Doesn't look like much value. Any advantage will be in the fact Trek stores may have them to ride. Don't underestimate the value of that. At least in Ohio, it is way easier to find multiple Trek stores vs. a Currie or other e-bike dealer with an...

    New Trek e-Bike?

Saw this on the Trek site today. Looks like a small 250wh battery. No detail on the motor. Not what I would describe as a big splash, but wondered if anyone had heard anything else. Colors Light Anthracite Frame Alpha Silver Aluminum Front suspension SR Suntour CR-8V, 50mm travel Sizes...

Ravi - absolutely. I have talked to the local Specialized dealer here and after hearing me describe the bike and its performance, they have decided to send their techs to get Turbo certified so they can sell the bike. I had to drive to Indianapolis to find a certified Turbo dealer (Gray Goat...

Brambor - your experience has me considering bicycle specific insurance. If you are up for disclosing, can I ask: Was your bike covered by the driver? Did you have to invoke any of your own insurance to get compensated? Great to hear you are back at it on a new bike!

Large guy looking to be less large...

Mike: also found this video on the City Commuter. From NZ, where he climbed 1,500 (not sure if it was ft or meters) and got 45km with energy left. Looks like it climbs like a champ.

Large guy looking to be less large...

Mike, Here is something I have learned that you might want to consider as you ride: the total elevation is less important as to the grade, or steepness of the climb. I rode a Stromer St-1 Platinum and a Specialized Turbo up the same 10 percent-ish grade hill, and the Stromer bogged down. It...

I don't *actually* think I am cheating, it is just a self-deprecating comment I have made to break the ice when I am around other cyclists. Gives me a chance to explain when I ride my e-bike and when I ride my road bike, and the great benefits of electric assist. My weekly miles went from...

Agree Vern. I don't think they are mad at me, it is mostly a look of astonishment I get because unless they know what to look for it isn't obvious I am on an assisted bike. Usually when I talk to people about the bike, and help them understand it isn't a scooter, they get really interested in...

Vern - I run into the situation of passing bikers all the time, mainly because Cincinnati is becoming more bike-friendly every day. The city has a great bike plan ( http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/bikes/ ). There is even an interactive map to show preferred, caution, and not recommended routes...

Paid attention to the battery more when I went for dinner tonight. 4.9 miles each way. On way out I took a flat route. 19 wh/mi. On the way home, I had 315 feet of climb, all at the end. About 23 wh/mi. I weigh 260, pedaled hard the whole time (avg speed including the climb was 19.0 on...

New "Flat-Less" Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tyres for 2014

The 622mm is the ISO measurement of bead seat diameter of the rim. It is used on tubes and tires to help match rims with tires. It's a mess though. Here is a good resource on understanding what goes with what: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html Some 700c and 29" tires will work on...

    Thru Axle and Lubrication

I can't find any mention in the Specialized Turbo documentation on care of the thru axle. Is it supposed to be greased regularly? After removal and replacement of the wheel? Anyone ever had a bike with a thru axle before?

If you are interested in road slicks, the Turbo runs with Specialized Electrak 700x45c, Armadillo puncture resistance. Available on the Spesh site when it comes back up (down for maintenance I guess).

Great to hear, Brambs. I commuted today, 13.3 miles, 17.5 avg mph, 31.2 mph top speed. I have this 16% grade, 300 foot climb at the end that kills my averages. Well, that and my 260lb frame. Was a delight. As usual, most vehicles very respectful - I choose my routes with that in mind. A...

All depends on context with the frame bags: on a tour you could be seen as hardcore weight weenie by slimming down and not using 4 panniers. I've had Tangles on my touring bike for awhile and love them. Just like down tube batteries, cargo weight is better in the middle of the bike. In the...

Court - I ended up riding a number if bikes - the Dash among them. I really enjoyed the dash, but in the end I bought a Turbo. I am normally a road bike guy (Trek Domane and a Salsa Vaya tourer) and the Turbo just felt like a great bike that was electric assist. Loved it. Dash would have...
