Specialised turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ my impressions after four rides

As confirmed above, the 5.0s come with tubeless-ready rims. Also, the EQ comes with the Nimbus tires and the non-EQ with Pathfinders. I'll probably convert to tubeless next year when I might be able to better judge if the Pathfinders are enough of an all-purpose tread pattern for my type of...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

My road bikes have always had Shimano 105 components, so I've never been able to try out the "double-tap" SRAM drop-bar shifters, which are quite different. At least with the flat-bar controls their basic operation is the same.

Unfortunately, the SRAM shifter on the 5.0 does not work that way.

ANT+ is a broadcast protocol. There is no "connection" per se, and any number of devices can simultaneously be receiving the same signal. However, in the case where a device can be controlled by ANT+, such as light networks, only one controlling device, such as a Garmin Edge, can be connected.

FYI, my Edge 1030+ also uses BT to connect to sensors that support BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). The most recent Garmin speed sensor that I bought broadcasts both ANT+ and BLE, as does my Polar Verity Sense heart monitor (and my Wahoo Kickr trainer). Of course, Specialized may or may not implement...

There is no separate level display for the RE. The "120 screen configs" is just a gimmick using combinatorics: there are several choices of screen layout selecting the number of fields and relative sizes, then for each field there are X different parameters that can be displayed and they just...

Pathfinder Sport. If I decide to go full tubeless I'll consider the Pros, but that won't be until next year's riding season at the earliest.

I have no idea what Stefan is ranting going on about above -- must be some people as concerned about level of battery charge as I am about weight ;). For the record, I swapped the cheap sidestand from Amazon today for the one from Specialized and saved 0.5oz (14g). At least it looks better --...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

RunGap sounded great until I looked and saw that it's only for iOS (Apple stuff). I also use my Edge for all my outdoor riding, so the issue was only for my virtual rides. My phone stays in my pocket or bag, but the Edge does display text messages and incoming call notifications, so on occasion...

Hooray for New Bike Day: Vado 4.0 2022

My biggest problem with a commute like that would simply be the time it takes, but to each their own.

Only 36T on the rear? My 5.0 is 44-50 in its lowest gear, which is more than I'd need on anything around here if I were pedaling with zero assist (Hmm...I might have to verify that).

Just a comment on total elevation numbers. When I do a ride with my Garmin Edge, the data is also uploaded to Strava and to another program that I use called SportTracks. When I do a virtual ride with my Wahoo Kickr and FulGaz app, the data goes right to Strava, but they also send me a .fit file...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

And from Grand Rapids the White Pine all the way to Cadillac, or turn right at Reed City and take the Pere Marquette to Midland. I've been jealous of the extensive, connected trail system on the west side of the state, much of which is due to Fred Meijer of course. I'm in the SE quadrant of the...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

I'm always careful about setting the correct ride type since it's meaningless and unfair to get a KOM -- or even a PR -- on a regular segment where everyone's supposed to be going on their own power (although I'm sure it happens a lot, even intentionally!). Seems like segment times on an e-bike...

LOL! Been there, done that (on an analog bike)... :D

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

I hope your taking this as a discussion, not an argument :). There are as many differences between e-bike riders and what they're looking for as there are between analog bike users (e.g. roadie vs MTB); we can't lump everyone together. I test rode an Allant before buying my first Vado and it had...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

I beg to disagree on that point. About a month after I got my Vado 4.0 in 2020, they announced the SL series and, for me at least, it obsoleted the bike I'd just bought and I've been waiting two years to justify replacing it. Then of course my new SL has the new Mastermind TCU and OTA updates vs...

    Vado SL 5.0 -- It's Here!

I agree that the full-power Vado would probably be best for you if the purpose is commuting and utility usage. Since you have a couple of great recreational bikes, you won't have to be concerned about the Vado's weight, off-road handling, etc. If you test ride both back-to-back, you will...

New Vado 5.0 IGH, 1st ride, and my experience

It should be stamped on them somewhere and is also in the geometry chart on the web site at 170mm for all sizes, which is pretty standard. The BB height is also the same for all.
