Choosing a $3k bike and narrowing down options to suit my needs

I have mangum metro plus and like it a lot. they make other similar models. No problems first 500 miles, except the charger, which mfg promptly replaced.

    Step-Thru

I read about them. Well documented design process. Some big names at the company. I want to see the 'load leveling' with a push of a button in person. The roll out seems to be for NYC. Interesting to me, but I am far from NYC.

eBike Range Calculators | Found a way to include the 'difficult range factors' - but it needs your feedback!

While out riding today, I remembered that I have 3 settings eco, normal, and sport. I keep it in eco. I don't recall this being in the survey. I am not sure how many bikes have such a variable. But it could explain some of the 'miss' on my calculation vs real life.

eBike Range Calculators | Found a way to include the 'difficult range factors' - but it needs your feedback!

Ok that was interesting. I 'scored' 28 wh/mile. I actually calculate it every ride when I get back. In real life I average between 12 and 13 wh/mile by my computation. Thanks.

    What's in your toolkit?

Have not used it yet, but yes, cell service is pervasive any where I can get to. A bit of comfort. Since I am unable to walk, if things go south, I will need to call someone.

    Power outage

There are whole threads on this site about batteries and charging, and chargers...My takeaway from reading them (which may be incorrect) was to charge them to less than 100%. And definitely do not store away at 100%. Good luck.

I don't have a picture, but I was startled by one of those new fangled automatic self contained robot lawn mowers a day ago. It 'charged' towards me on the street only to turn as it came to the edge of the lawn. I had no idea what was happening there for a minute.

Looking to get rolling in NY

I like my Mangum metro plus. They have other models as well. worth a look/watch/read the reviews? Main thing is to test ride as many as possible. there are lots of good ones out there. Good luck.

    Step-Thru

I ride a basic step thru. I want to upgrade one day. I enjoy this thread as it gives me a heads up when a new step thru comes on the scene. They are often here before any reviews. Please carry on with my thanks.

Which mfg has the 3 position lock for the battery? locked (off electrically) , (locked on electrically), unlocked? I think there was a recent review of such a bike. All mfgs should do this immediately. simple and effective. I took lots of serial number photos when I got my bike. I hope never...

Class 3 Urban eBike Owners: What is your preferred cruising speed?

I average way under 20 in an urban setting. There are no long runs where I live, with lots of stopping and intersections to clear. I usually do 28 the last 3 blocks of my ride, though, just to scare myself a bit. I am not commuting, just goofing around. If commuting, I would be going faster.

    Hi, new to the forum!

congrats HT. I used to walk a bunch, now that I have spinal cord injury, not so much. I turned to ebikes to get out and do something physical last fall. Now I can't imagine life without one. Especially during these times, being able to get out and explore is wonderful. You are going to love it...
