Looking for ebike recommendations for 250lb commuter

If you already have a bike and ride "flat, paved streets", checkout Clean Republic's 350 watt front geared-hub Horizon package. It's simple and efficient technology for about $850, and would be plenty of assist. https://tinyurl.com/k4apq64 https://tinyurl.com/7ccg5cz

what I've learned after 500 miles

Three of my previous eBikes had throttles. They allowed me to pedal manually and just use boost on hills or whenever I felt the need. The throttle gave me variable power feed in any gear. My present bike has a torque-sensing PAS system. With the press of a button on the bars I can turn the...

what I've learned after 500 miles

After 500 miles with power assist, what I learned is that self restraint is necessary. With un-assisted pedal bikes it took ‘x’ amount of applied effort to climb the hills on my route. When I started riding eBikes it was a nearly effortless joy ride. The downside to all that ‘easy’, though...

Ann: EBR is a daily stop and I read several forums at the site. Occasionally, I've had a page pop up saying my IP addy has been banned. Jumping to another EBR forum or reloading the site gets me back in. Just an FYI, it seems like a bug.

    38-t chainring and smaller tires

FYI.... If you choose the Steps optional smaller 38-tooth chainring, and change tire sizes, the Steps software needs to be updated to maintain speedo/odo accuracy and to modify torque sensing. I'm not sure what happens when the chainring data is altered, so if anyone has done this please post a...

    > Younger buyers want interaction, and will know exactly what they want. From what I’ve experienced, most young consumers do know what they want, like you said. But, it’s all about the price tag and nothing more. The only interaction they want is a pat on the back that confirms they are doing...

Airless Tire at last on bikes first!

It resembles the resistance fan on an exercise bike. Drag: the sum of all the aerodynamic or hydrodynamic forces in the direction of the external fluid flow. It therefore acts to oppose the motion of the object.

    review suggestions

IMO, attempting to establish that kind of data would be an elaborate maze. As well, factor in that range diminishes as a battery ages and it all becomes a can of worms. From my experiences, deducting 20% from the range claims is a viable ballpark average.

    Forum Updates and Feedback

Court: Your eBike videos are the best on the net, don’t change them. The hands-on details tactfully seasoned by your extensive experience database, and your quality camera work, are worthwhile and appreciated. Often, the videos provide info that might be missed by Joe Consumer on a personal test...

Mid drive and cadence upper limit (top end).

So, does anyone know the cadence peak for Shimano's E6000 Steps system? Maybe I missed it, but none of their tech data I've gathered appears to list it.

    Trek Lift+

It isn't an inexpensive mod, but a 2016 Lift can be updated to on-bike charging by replacing the battery mount and buying the 2017 charger. The Lift is a joy. There are some steep hills on my ride so I had the dealer replace my Lift's stock 44-tooth chainring with the Steps 38t option. The...

    Depreciation of Electric Bikes

Last June there were 2500 bicycles for sale on my region's Craig’s List, and there are still 2500. You almost have to give away a bicycle to get rid of it. It isn’t any better with power-assisted bikes. After 11 months on CL, my last factory-built eBike finally sold for 35% of it’s new value...

Trek Lift with the optional 38t chainring. The bike climbs very well and has replaced a car for errands and hauling groceries. Replaced the big balloons with 1.50" Paselas.

Shimano vs Bosch ; AMD vs Intel

Just like the majority of consumer products manufactured around the world. It's Business Economics-101. The mechs may see it as annoying, but the shop owner appreciates the sale.

Shimano vs Bosch ; AMD vs Intel

    > ....Hopefully, you meant AMD makes as good or better chips than intel, but intel is riding on name and customers ignorance I meant that Shimano is as common in the bicycle scene as Intel chips are in computers. The debate over Intel and AMD is for another website. :) It will be interesting...

Shimano vs Bosch ; AMD vs Intel

From what I've seen, Shimano is the equivalent of Intel in the world's bicycle scene, and Bosch makes good dishwashers. ;-)

Best choice for dirt/gravel road w upright comfort

[Chris]... A cruising style bike like the Lift.... A Lift isn't really a cruiser. I've been riding a Trek Shift for 18 months on undeveloped roads and gravel paths with no difficulty. Recently, I tested the new e-assist Lift on pavement and gravel. The Shift and Lift models share very...

    350w hub versus 250w mid-drive, who wins?

In case anyone else is curious, I will answer my own question. The weather cooperated during the week and I had some free time, so I found a dealer with a Trek manual-shift Shimano Steps mid-drive demo. I did some riding up a 10% hill and discovered that compared to a 36v 350-watt geared hub...
