2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Some of you may know I took a spill a few weeks ago on some ice. I was commuting in to work on my new road ebike with its 700x32 slicks because I had the other bike out of rotation for new tires/chain and to repair the rack. Anyways, took a pretty good bruise to my hip and my ribs that took...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

That's not atypical with what I see with rides imported to Strava/RWGPS. RWGPS definitely does some error correcting to the imported data. They've stated that this correction may not improve accuracy in all situations, but they keep it consistent because trying different algorithms for...

Electric Bike Review Riders Club on Strava

Not! Maybe if it were a sunny dry day I would sneak out for an hour in the afternoon, but the forecast calls for 100% chance of rain and 1.4" of it - which means actual rain, not just the usual drizzle. My personal batteries need recharging more than the bike's batteries need discharging.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

My only question is - Do you mount your graphing calculator to the handlebars or does it fit in your pockets? :)

Looking for other bike makers that have an offering similar to Trek Verve+ 4S.

Gazelle and Specialized Como come to mind first with similar bikes.

I never agreed with Peta until today.

You do know that United Health is vertically integrated, right? In my case, my employer offered plan is through UHC, OptumRX handles prescriptions, Optum administers our HSA account, Optum administers our company LOA program, and the clinic that most of our providers are at was recently...

Do you really need to torque a through axle?

Did yours not come with some grease or antiseize paste already applied? The Praxis crank arms I installed a few weeks ago did.

Looking For A Full Suspension Skinny Tire Step Through Commuter

Ummm... Biktrix RogueHawk FS ST pretty much meets your wish list. 24x3 tires so not quite fat. Personally, it doesn't look like a very comfortable bike, but whatever floats your boat. That coil shock has 50mm of travel while a good suspension seatpost can give 35mm travel - food for thought...

Current Specialized app sometimes fails to record rider power on Vado SL 5.0

Semi random thoughts that might not apply since I don't know how the Spec app functions. - could the missing power be times when you've brought another app to focus? I had similar missing gaps in power on the COBI display I had a few years ago, which I eventually determined it was recording 0...

    The Tariff Questions?

The person making the calls doesn't smell right. Imagine someone who is so obsessed with what may or may not be under teenagers clothes and is so sure of their assumptions that they are moved to call a school 1500 miles away and unironically accuse the people there who are simply living up to...

a very brief review of a new bike (scott addict rc eride)

A lot of good deals on this bike are available for those who fit into its niche. The older never ridden 20 series that have been on Upway for months are marked down to $2400. I wonder if Scott will release an updated version to match the non-e Addict they just released?

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Sunday night commute. The predicted rain didn't really materialize so I took the long way around Lake Union to get home. 33+ miles for the whole commute. Got home damp and just a little chilled. 45F and sprinkles is about as good as can be expected. Headed south towards downtown on the...

Do you really need to torque a through axle?

My Haibike has one in the same spot. I've always assumed it was for the derailleur hanger, but have never needed to mess with it. FWIW my thru axle is similar to the one Foofer posted. Pull out the handle and you can rotate to any position. Push it in and it engages with the thru axle so...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Ha, I have a 4 pack of those RideNow pink tubes waiting to swap into my Falcon. They apparently have had about 4 revisions in the last year or 2 but are supposed to be fairly reliable now. The advice is to buy 4-6 because you'll probably have at least 1 or 2 bad ones in any batch. Mostly...

    Replacement wheel?

Presumably a good chunk of that is due to the IGH? A regular wheel it would be cheaper to order a new prebuilt wheel with a DT Swiss knock-off hub than to pay the labor to fix an oem wheel.

Bike jobs that took WAY longer than you ever imagined

I decided to put shorter cranks on my new bike as I had several pedal strikes in the first few weeks. Ordered some from Ebay that were sold as Bosch, Brose, Fazua compatible as they were cheaper and lighter than the Bosch specific offerings in the size I wanted. Figured it was 50/50 that they...
