Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

The pitch or length between pins is identical, but single speed chains are wider, so force is dispersed over a larger area. Kids are standing on BMX with long cranks. It needs to be strong. Half-links were just a single quick-link on a single speed chain. Now you can get the entire chain that...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

@DDBB, What you need is a DhAG. I had a bike this week that I thought was totally dialed in, in everyway. But it would shift down into higher gears crisply but would skip and miss going up to larger cogs. The vertical alignment of the hanger was off by 5mm and the horizontal by 10. The DhAG...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

See this classic bike shown before with a wide half-link chain to an IGH. You see the wire from the battery to the motor. Zoom that chain! That is exactly what an electric bike looks like that eats Creos. My first Creo eater in 2019 was chrome. Zoom that puppy, I am a much better builder but was...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

Perhaps the cassette calculation and calibration of chain length use even numbers on the high-end for a reason. I just had a 5:15 Saturday beer so I might not be fully cogent. Chains typically have narrow links and wide links alternating. A quick link only fits the outer plates = wide. But, and...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I did some math. Maybe I got it. The chain has one bad link. It is not bending right and the chain is 112 links long. So every time the chain goes around once the bad link hits that exact same cog. Edit: Cassettes have odd teeth to allow for ramps shifting up and down.

It is badly misshapen. One looks like a shark fin. You could keep it and just not use that cog.

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I have been riding a fast analog bike for about five days. It has been great to practice pedaling technique and spinning at high cadence. I needed to make a house call, that means tools so I packed up and took a torque sensor mid-drive. The pedaling practice really paid off. And at a cadence of...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

My old tank died. Now I am getting a new larger one. It is 2L. I know a guy who waxes his ass; isn't that the start of a limerick? In an illustrated book? https://www.rhymezone.com/r/rhyme.cgi?typeofrhyme=perfect&loc=thesql&Word=ass

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I know a guy who brags that he only needs one pair of boxers for a four day trip. He goes front, then back, then inside out, front and back. Personally I would rather change it before it 'needs' changing.

The joke is that only Italians do that. The truth is that expert wheel builders do not need a gauge. They do it by feel and tone.

Right now that bike is 28 but it is getting 622-50 Big Apples, then it is going to NYU. That will up the effectual gearing on the top-end at 29, placing the speed at C-100 at closely approaching 41 mph. Gear chart using MPH @ 100 RPM For 700 X 50 / 50-622 / 29 x 2.0 tire with 170 mm cranks...

    New Trek FX+1 ?

It is just another hub-drive, thumb throttle bike from a decade ago. And all propitiatory. So, you are stuck in their universe, forever. Get a non-proprietary universal fit mid-drive and you won't be stuck in that jam. Get a universal fit external battery, again, so you are independent on on...

The intention that I interpreted was being signaled to me was, "I see you coming with a 52 ring to 11-T at a cadence 105, and I don't care, because I am bigger." I could be wrong. And my fault, I did have some ego. I had already made my down payment to have that inertial capital invested.

That truck saw me coming and decided to block the whole road anyway. So I just went around. What he did not like is that I did not share his sense of entitlement to hog the road. There is a section of red curb with a fire hydrant and bike lane with signs that say No P Bike Lane every 30 feet...

    For us OLD guys

I have been having a blast on an analog bike the last few days. The thing is to focus on cadence not effort. High cadence with low effort in a top gear. It will feed back to informing my eBiking technique. A guy stuck in a truck got angry because I was so much faster and more nimble. He was...
