Announcement & Update on EBR Ownership

Congrats to Justin and team for taking over this thing Court built. Those are tough shoes to fill. Gonna miss Court, no doubt. Been around here since 2016, waiting for every review Court did. Along the way, he introduced us to @Ravi Kempaiah and his long distance ebike cycling exploits that...

Rode up on homeless person sleeping on bike trail.

This song seems appropriate, no? There but for the grace of God, go I.......

Buying an Ebike for my commute to and from work to tackle a large gradient hill.

I have the predecessor to the Yamaha PW-ST, the PW. 70nm of torque like the ST. You want the additonal 10nm of torque and the extra 130wh of battery and at that, it's a minimal price upgrade. Go with the Lapierre. My 2016 Yamaha PW motor and batteries are still trouble free since early 2017 and...

    $10,000.00?

@Catalyzt No problem, we all have to find out things on our own! In my case, I outfitted my Trek 9000 mtb back in the early 90's with AeroSpoke rims. Not carbon fiber, per se; but some kind of carbon plastic concoction. One weekend, I had the bike down on our towboat/barge, setting out for a...

    $10,000.00?

I think this is the thread over on the Emtb forums that the OP is referring to: https://www.emtbforums.com/threads/new-bike-with-paint-damage-should-i-accept-or-ask-for-a-new-one.38299/ I read the thread this morning. Actually, it's 10.5k.....LOL. Carbon fiber frame. The owner recieved the bike...

    Fat tire mountain bike

Rome, my model year FFS has the Yamaha PW drive. 70nm of torque. The later ones had PW-X drives and I believe the last year (Europe sold only as H-Bike had abandoned the US market) has the PW-X2 drive with more torque at the crank.

    Fat tire mountain bike

I bought my Specialized FatBoy in 2015. Set it up for touring, with a Schmidt SON28 dyno hub feeding a B&M front light. Surly racks, front and rear. Ortlieb bags for front and rear and handlebar. I put about 6 thousand plus miles on it, riding a 75/25 split of asphalt and trail riding. 12 months...

    Fat tire mountain bike

If I could take a swing at your questions..... I've had my Full FatSix in the deep sugar sand of the NJ Pine Barrens many, many times. The FFS comes with 80mm width rims and 4.0 tires. For truly deep sand riding, you need the width of those rims to support a wide tire, deflated anywhere to 5 to...

    Fat tire mountain bike

Yep, fully agree. There are fat bikes and then, there are high tiered fat bikes. And the good ones seemed to have stopped production or just flat out left our US market as Haibke did (they even discontinued the fat ebike from their german catalog). Building one from the ground up, using high...

    Fat tire mountain bike

On craigslist right now, I see a lightly used Haibike FatSix for under 2 grand, sized large. There is also ebay and facebook marketplace. I personally would have no issue whatsoever, purchasing a used Haibike FatSix or Full FatSix as I know it was the top tier fat tired E-mtb of it's time. I...

Mid-Drive - Front Tire Wear More than Rear Tire Wear?

I've found the folks on this site to be extremely helpful to any new comer with questions. Then, along comes the above observation........ And this: "I do use the front brake as a 'clutch' for the mid-drive engine, but hopefully not enough to actually engage the brake" Please elaborate about...

Move the mirror mount so it butts right up against the grip. Move the motor controller & throttle, inboard. Problem solved.

First e-bike for a 68 year old - buying help needed

@Logwog: Another ebike to consider is the Zen Photon. Aside from the premium features of this particular bike, maybe the most important thing I consider is the people backing Zen. And the leader of Zen is a person who has been a long time contributor to this forum and site, @Ravi Kempaiah. I...

    Am I adequately covered?

Some great advice here, as usual. There are no set-in-stone answers to what you seek; just the solid, real-world experience by each and every one of us who have taken the time to post. Myself, I can say I've pretty much done it all. Started with Mr Tuffy liners on my Haibike Full FatSix's 4.0...

Dost bikes Primary Battery and optional secondary Battery

If you google "American Electrics" like I did, you won't find what your looking for. Always good when someone finds a helpful business or website, to link it directly, like this: https://www.american-electric.co/ Regardless, good job by the OP, @Bobbo to find a business that looks like they can...

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

The latest info from the NJ Bike and Walk Coalition: https://njbwc.org/bill-s2292/ So people against the bill (including representatives of insurance companies who don't want to touch mandatory ebike insurance!) have already testified. The result? The Senate Head (who introduced this ridiculous...

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

And, concluding, just my two cents: I found this forum and Court's video reviews back in late 2016 or so. I loved my Specialized Fatboy fat bike, but his review of the new 2016 Felt Outfitter and 2016 Haibike FatSix caught my eye to the possibilities of going long distance on bikes like this...

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

Except for my years away from this god-forsaken state to do military service, I am a long time resident of NJ. Trust me when I write that it still remains the worst, most heavily tax-burdened state out of all 50 states. And believe me, should this thing get passed into law (I think it will...

    Great plan, poor execution

Can't hurt, can only help. But do inspect those teeth for wear. On my Shimano XT derailleur, the pulleys are made of some kind of plastic or nylon.
