Where is the speed sensor and pickup located...

I have the Vado SL 5 EQ. There are magnets imbedded in the rear brake rotor. The sensor appears to be be below the brake caliper, like Tim’s bike, part of the caliper mount.

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

I have the same bike as you. Sure you can get all the information you need and more from Mission Control but I prefer not to be futzing with a smart phone on my handlebars while I am riding. The default first page of the TCD shows at a glance speed, distance traveled, battery and assist levels...

Which spring to use for the 'Future Shock' feature of the Vado SL 5.0?

My Vado SL 5 EQ came with the medium spring installed. The bag of stuff (instructions, spoke reflectors, TCD screen protector etc.) also included the light and heavy springs. I'm 175 lbs. and so far, the medium works for me but I haven't tried any others.

    Back lighting display (TCD).

Instructions for the TCD state the backlight is lit for 5 seconds after pressing any button. I have the same bike as yours. The backlight is not very strong, barely noticed in daylight. I didn’t see it until I pressed a button in a dimly lit garage.

Curious How many Vado SL Owners & reviews after several miles riding

Do a search for TCD on the specialized website. On the page that describes the TCD there is a drop down for the instructions

Curious How many Vado SL Owners & reviews after several miles riding

My instructions for the TCD were in a packet of stuff that was inside the charger case. There was also a model specific instruction booklet. The TCD instructions had microscopic font unsuitable for my old eyes. You are better off going the the Specialized website and downloading an electronic...

    VADO SL 5.0 EQ

Congrats. I love mine. It is unfortunate that the LBS didn't make sure the TCD was paired up properly with the bike. They also should have made sure Mission Control was working on your phone. Once after a motor firmware upgrade (yes, you'll need to go to the LBS for that) my TCD stopped...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

There's this one by Cannondale: https://www.rei.com/product/166402/cannondale-quick-neo-sl-1-remixte-electric-bike In the same weight class as a Vado SL but it is a hub drive system. Cheaper too.

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

Good thought Brendon. At this point this 63 year old bony ass 175 lb. rider doesn't ride more than 25 miles in a session. The battery on my Vado SL 5 can handle that trip regardless of the level of assist I use, the hills I climb or the headwind I'm riding into. I'm sure as time goes on, my...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

You have excellent taste in ebikes. I'm a first time owner of one and also have the Vado SL 5 EQ. I have made similar adjustments adding Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo Reflect tires (very similar tread pattern), Suntour NCX seat post and Shimano PD XT pedals. I'm still looking for a seat to...

Be aware, pedal-assisted bikes are NOT ebikes

You are right, an eMTB would be ideal on these trails....maybe someday. Thanks for sharing your cool videos and pictures. Ride Safe

Be aware, pedal-assisted bikes are NOT ebikes

Your video shows a very cool trail that I'd love to ride someday but the ones here are not like that. They are in a flood plane with creek on one side and in most areas flanked by mature trees on both sides. Ahead sight distance is often about 100 ft., sometimes less as the trail goes through...

Be aware, pedal-assisted bikes are NOT ebikes

The trails follow the streams and are paved with asphalt. The asphalt is quite bumpy in many areas because it is in a flood zone and some parts haven’t been repaved in several years. So, the trails have natural speed bumps but there’s really nobody to monitor the speeds. I think the city is...

Be aware, pedal-assisted bikes are NOT ebikes

My hometown, Overland Park, Kansas has instituted a pilot program allowing class 1 and class 3 electric bikes on the paved trails. Regardless of your rig’s classification, the speed limit on the trail is 20 mph. That’s a very reasonable top speed limit as the trails have many blind curves and...

Serial #/model of the bike not the same as what Mission Control says -- how to fix?

I registered my acoustic bike (Sirrus Sport) on the Specialized site when I bought it. Earlier this year there was a recall on the bike (some kind of issue with the crank). Specialized sent me a notice in the mail about the recall and the LBS fixed it for free. Without registration, I wouldn't...

Turbo Vado 4 SL tires for wet roads

I had the same tires on my vado sl 5 eq. I put on a set of Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo Reflects. They seem to have more grip on less smooth and wet surfaces.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Yesterday was a nice day so I rode a paved creek trail to a park in the KC area. There is a beach along part of the lake but reservations are required to use it. I guess these guys had it booked for the day

Here is a milage stat for the vado sl

I got 53 miles on my Vado SL 5 this week. That was on a single charge an there was 14% left in the tank. I was probably riding 50% eco, 45% sport and 5% turbo with 1650' of elevation gain. I weigh 180 lbs. The Specialized claimed 80 mile range was likely achieved with a 100# rider, all downhill...

Turbo Vado SL 4.0 eq question/thoughts

Like you, I'm a new first time owner of a Vado SL. Mine's a 5 EQ though. From what I have read here and elsewhere, clicking down there can be a very bad thing. If that happened to me and a was offered a complete replacement, albeit in a color I liked less, I'd take the new bike. Sorry for your...

    TCD defect on 2020 Como?

I now notice that @Mr. Breeze does not have the trip odometer function on any of his screens. The TCD screens are customizable if you are brave enough to navigate the instructions. On my TCD, the 4th screen you show in your pictures has a trip odometer (shown as DIST in the TCD) instead of...
