Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Yep, but on the same route this doesn't change much, though I am in California for a bit longer and things here have been known to move around from time to time...😎

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

Yep, the biggest variables I've seen in my riding the same route is 1) My speed. The fatser I want to go the more motor assistance I need and the less efficiency I get (higher KWh/mile), and 2) Head winds. The stiffer the head wind the more power I use to go the same speed with again the less...

    Mind Melters

    Here's a math oriented puzzler; Let x = 1 Squaring both sides of the equation gives; x**2 = 1**2 = 1 And by substituting x = 1 for 1 we get; x**2 = x Subtracting 1 from both sides gives us; (x**2)-1 = x-1 Factoring the left side of the equatuon gives us; (x-1) * (x+1) = x-1 Dividing...

    It's fire season again

Did a very pretty early fall ride with my wife on a local route we hadn't ridden before, Lower Colfax Rd to Mt. Olive Rd with a turnaround when Mt Olive turns to gravel. This took us into the Bear River canyon between our home and the City of Colfax. Colofax had been evacuated in August of this...

    Bent rear tire (maybe rim?)

A spoke tension gauge can help you get your spokes to the correct tension, though more money in tools (not that that's a bad thing 😎) I use a tension gauge when building a new wheel, but rely on the acoustic technique when tuning up a wheel; https://www.sheldonbrown.com/spoke-pitch.html If...

Intermittent cut of power of Moscow

Fred, If you ride the Moscow Pus with the hydraulic brakes you will need to remove the wheel to replace the brakes as the hydraulic pistons will need to be reset. From https://www.parktool.com/product/hydraulic-brake-piston-press-pp-1-2 If you ride the Moscow with the mechanical disc brakes...

    Bike mechanics charge how much??

Our LBS is at $60/hr, including ebikes. My Vado front wheel needed new bearings to finally get rid of an irritating 'chirp'. Labor and bearings came to $51. Seemed reasonable to me since, believe it or not, I didn't have the tool to do the work. Now I can ride without sounding like there's an...

    Repeated Flats

I've never had a properly applied patch fail so I've never had a limit to the number of patches on a tube. What usually 'kills' a tube is a slit along a seam, or a puncture near a stem or another patch.

    Repeated Flats

Don't stop riding just because of flats! OK, with that said, there's no perfect no-flat solution, but you can reduce them so their rare occurance will probably be acceptable to you. Technologies like tubeless and the Tanus inserts will go a long way in this direction, but my MTBing sons that...

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

John, I do agree with @Stefan Mikes more analytical analysis of range and battery capacity. I just wanted to share my battery range riding around our very hilly terrain around Nevada City, CA. I ride a Vado 5 with a 600Wh battery. My typical rides are 20-30 miles with 3,000 - 4,000 feet of...

    New Vados, Comos, and TERA!

I have to say that going tubeless is no guarantee of no flats. With that said, I don't run tubeless setups on any of my bikes, but my MTBing sons have done so since high school (they're in their 30s now!). They also carry tire plug kits, use a tire sealant, carry a spare tube, and a CO2...

Intermittent cut of power of Moscow

The internal connection to the pin might have been damaged contributing to this problem, but it seems to me from your first photo that the connectors may not be fully engaged. The left connector has an arrow pointing to the right with a line to the right. The right connector has an arrow...

    The Green Room

CalFire describes fires that have merged as 'complex' fires. Last year's August Complex fire was the first wild fire, merged or not, to exceed 1 million acres. This year's Dixie fire is on track to exceed 1 million acres any day now. It is the largest non-complex fire in the State's history...

What is your guesstimate for the cost of charging a Bosch Powerpack 500?

$0.08/KwH!? A bargain by California standards where our rates, depending on usage time, Zodiac sign, etc, are up to 400% higher. I assume you're charging in the condo common area where the HOA pays for the power, rather than using power from your unit or patio? I can see where some owners would...
