First timer and asking some honest questions about E-bikes

That Juiced ebike does have a 'prominante' battery, doesn't it! This neoprene cover has been recommended by others on the forum; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07656Y8QM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1BMYXFTS7NTJR&psc=1 Dimensions are in the Product Description. I've been an avid SCUBA...

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

I clamp our ebikes by their seat posts, but they are not dropper posts. I'm concerned with the added weight of the ebike on the top tube as these frame parts are often thicker at their ends than in the middle to save a bit of weight. My mech engineering sons do the same, as does the LBS. Just...

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

The granny that I share my life with took shotgun training as a part of her field survival training with the US Geological Survey and carried a loaded shotgun for her field work in Alaska. I advise caution in dealing with this granny! 😎

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

San Clemente, California, considering regulations for 'speeding' electric bikes. https://www.ocregister.com/2021/02/05/san-clemente-is-latest-coastal-town-discussing-dangers-of-e-bikes/amp/ As I've said before, stricter regulations will be our own fault. 😖

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

Not helpful in California; doses are being redirected to teachers, regardless of age or pre-existing health issues. They refuse to go back to teaching in person unless they all get vaccinated. 😱 Back to our regular scheduled programming...

    Good Stuff You Bought

We always carry flashlights for our evening walks; not so much to see but to be seen.

    Another upgrade question

The Voilamart controller may be able to drive a motor up to 34 mph, but both the battery and motor need to have this capability as well. You might want to take a look at Grin's Motor Simulator; https://ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html?motor=MG60_750&cont=C40&wheel=700c&hp=0&axis=mph&batt=B4816_GA...

    Good Stuff You Bought

Riders I've talked with re their lack of bike lights report that "they can see just fine". To me the real issue is to be sure those big heavy, fast machines near you - cars - can see you even in low light. I use flashing tail and head lights even during the day. Makes a big difference on how...

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

I always get visions of toe nails being torn off when I see open toed sandals on any rider. 😥 I wear closed toed Keens for warm weather crusing. 😎

Just one exmple, but even in our small town over-powered ebikes have been pulled over; https://www.dailybreeze.com/2021/01/29/manhattan-beach-hermosa-beach-strengthening-enforcement-on-electric-bike-safety/

First timer and asking some honest questions about E-bikes

I haven't seen battery storage and charging discussed as yet... Lithium batteries shoulld not be stored beolw ~40°F. When the temps dip, I bring ours inside. Riding at lower temps is OK as the bettery will generate enough heat to be OK though a neoprene wrap when it's really cold wouldn't...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

My rear Trigger Sport tire had worn smooth in the middle section after ~1,500 miles. I ride frequent gravel roads so I tried Smart Sams on both wheels but found they added a bit too much rolling resistance for pavement. At my sons' suggestion I swapped out the rear for the still good Trigger...

Bottle Mount Accessories That Aren't Bottle Holders

We use Abus folding locks that stow away in their matching holder for a noise free and secure mount. It uses water bottle cage screw mounts. https://mobil.abus.com/int/on-road/Locks/Folding-Locks/BORDO-GRANIT-XPlus-6500-85-black-SH

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

Most bike computers compute speed and distance using the wheel circumference. The wheel settings were initially different on our 2 Vados. They'd log different mileages on the same ride. Once the LBS set them the same the differences went away. I do get different speed and distance reports...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Donner Summit about 1hr to the east got 36" of snow in last week's 'atmospheric river' storm. It's snowing up there now at over 7,000' elevation. We're just getting rain at 2,600' 😀.
