    No more flats

Since I started riding e-bikes I've had two flats. No sealant made would have saved me from the first flat. That was a roofing nail that went clear through the tire, both sides of the tube, and buried itself in the inner wall of the rim. The second flat would have been ideal for a sealant...

Riding No Handed Over 50 or 60

I was never able to master the black art of riding with no hands. I'm absolutely fine with one hand on the bars though. If I need both my hands for something I'll just stop the bike and take care of it. Its not like an e-bike has any particular difficulty in accelerating from a stop or anything.

    Hello from Toronto Ontario Canada

Welcome. I would recommend starting with deciding what kind of sales and support experience that you want. If you want a bike that you are comfortable wrenching on yourself that opens up the choices afforded by buying from "Internet direct" bike makers and sellers. If you aren't comfortable...

    Radcity direct drive

If I had bought the correct frame size for me I'd still be using my RadCity 2018 as my one and only e-bike. The bike's frame size being wrong for me was my bad and it has found a new home with somebody where the frame size is a much better fit. As somebody that made the move from a RadCity to a...

How long can you expect an e-bike to last?

Like all vehicles it depends on how well you maintain it and how many miles/km you put on the bike per year. I mostly ride my e-bikes for commuting. I put around 500 miles on one bike and 100 miles on the other in the short time I rode last year. Assuming I keep the drive train clean and...

The Fastest Wide, Tubeless 27.5" Tire Has Been Discontinued. Alternatives?

I can understand the rationale of running a road tire for road riding as I've made that decision for myself. All my riding is on pavement or gravel. I alternate between Vee Rubber Speedster tires and the Kenda Juggernaut tires that came on the bike. Worrying about shaving grams of tire weight...

More and more brands keep popping up

Santa Cruz, YT, and Merida have been around in the mountain bike space for quite a while. Given that e-mtb bikes have their own Enduro World Series race class this year I'd be surprised if a lot of traditional MTB brands don't roll out e-MTBs of their own over the next couple of years.

    Smartphone mount: A bad experience

I have both a horn and a bell. I use the bell when I'm on bike and multi-use paths. I use the horn when I'm on streets or when I run across people that aren't paying attention (usually due to headphones or earbuds in their ears). I give them a couple rings and if they don't respond I use the...

How do you use e-power on your e-bike?

Under normal circumstances I use PAS 1 on my RipCurrent S (default PAS setting) and PAS 3 on my Aurora Limited. In both cases those settings give me the power delivery that I'm happy with. Meaning, the PAS power delivery feels natural and smooth at that setting. If I'm in a really big hurry I...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

I can actually wear a regular pair of slacks over the top of my riding shorts without worrying about getting chain oil stains on my pant legs when I ride my belt drive bike to work. Kind of nice when the weather is in the 40 - 50 degree F range.

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

I checked the expected service life of a Gates belt on the Gates website. According to the information on the Gates drive website the expected service life of a Gates Drive is "twice the life of a chain". 15,000 km of maintenance free riding is pretty good in my opinion...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

There are also plenty of bike shops right along the canal path between Brockport and Fairport. Places I know of: Brockport: Bicycle Outfitters Spencerport: Sugar's Bike Shop Henrietta: REI (directly on the canalway trail) Pittsford (Shoen Place): Towpath Bike (plenty of good eats/refreshments at...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

One of my former co-workers (now retired) has done the annual Canal tour and had nothing but good things to say about the experience. That tour has been running for quite a while. I also believe it is part of Adventure Cycles Northern Pan-AM route.

The ultimate pedal and shoes discussion

I prefer MTB style flats. The pegs on the pedal are enough to keep my feet in place with the shoes I wear. One bike has a set of Stamp 7's and the other has the alloy Wellgo Platforms it came with. Even though I know there is better power transfer with clipless I'm not enamored with the idea of...

My Thoughts on Mid Drive..Hub Drive and Throttle

As a technical person, by mindset and profession, I don't understand why class 1 vs class 2 is even a thing when the only functional difference between the two is a manual device to operate the motor vs. an automatic one. The top speeds are the same and from a purely mechanical standpoint the...

My Thoughts on Mid Drive..Hub Drive and Throttle

In my case I have chronic tendinitis. As a result I "break" far more often than my bike does. When it flares up every turn of the crank causes large amounts of stabbing pain. Having a throttle gives me the piece of mind that if I have a flare on a ride my bike will get me home or back to my car.

    Limited Edition Aurora

As a note. If you want to upgrade the firmware and want to keep the factory gear ratios the chain ring (front) size is 44 and the sprocket (rear) is 18.

    Time To Discuss Torque Ratings.....Again.

Torque is how much force the motor pushes with. Total output is how FAST it pushes. A 100nm electric motor is going to push with the same 100nm of rotational force whether or not it is a 250 watt motor or a 2.5 kilowatt motor. The biggest difference is the 250 watt motor might push something at...

    Time To Discuss Torque Ratings.....Again.

On a very simplistic level, when it comes to motor systems, horsepower(watts) is what is most important for top speed and torque is what is most important for acceleration and pulling power. Most ebike systems are running at 250 watts to 750 watts (0.25 horsepower to 1 horsepower) which is why a...

My Thoughts on Mid Drive..Hub Drive and Throttle

The correct quick link for a chain is pretty cheap, light, and easy to keep in an emergency repair kit along with a basic chain tool. I'd say that the drive break that is hard to deal with is a carbon belt. Mainly because you have to completely replace the belt and not everyone has a spare on...
