Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I agree, though I have the scabs on my shins from the Stamp 1 pedals from sudden stops from riding in the city (DC) with my ebike group on a very touristy Saturday

Mission Control-Smart Control, my experience (today)

I used Smart Control a few times when I first got the bike and was experimenting. It definitely worked as far as battery life was concerned, but it too frequently didn’t match the assist to the conditions. My typical ride is on a rail trail with one rolling hills. These are not very steep' but 2...

She doesn’t, actually. She can’t imagine someone being older than their grand parents. (I’m 74)

Heres some real world ebike motor data.

The challenge of a speed limit on a bike trail reminds me of when I lived in Jerome, Arizona in the late 1960’s. To get to town, motorists need to climb a steep twisty road with a speed limit of 15 mph. Many of the cars of the day couldn’t reach the top of the hill if they started at 15 mph. The...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I can’t answer many of your questions, but I can let you know that you can’t get these two items nor would it be worth it as they would probably be more expensive than the difference between the 4 and the 5. I believe a 1x12 drivetrain is possible. I may update from the ten to 11 or even 12 on...

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

Very interesting. Thanks for the data.

How fast is too fast for you?

My average speeds are in the 14-16 mph range. There are a couple of spots on my usual route where I can go 24-26 For a few hundred yards, but traffic and immediate climbs keep it short. I’ve had rides where I can go around 20 for a while, but it’s rare. I do have a stretch when I‘m really home...

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

Thanks for the info. Guess Smart Control will stay interesting but not particularly useful for now.

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

I agree. It’s a fun feature, but the assist levels are often inappropriate for the riding conditions. Mostly hills and wind. It might be better when using the HBM mode, but since it doesn’t link to my Apple Watch, I haven’t been able to test that. FWIW, the similar functionality in BLEvo is no...

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

The main battery, RE battery and the charger all contain circuitry to manage charging. This include intelligence to prevent overcharging, possibly charge optimization (as on iPhones and other mobile devices) and so forth. Lithium batteries are susceptible to damage during charging. Using...

    Bicycle passing law

I know I took a learner’s permit test. In 1964. That’s all I remember about the test. That’s the problem, but as long as we don’t require retesting every several years - perhaps every decade - most folks will be unfamiliar with current laws. I’m 74 and know I‘m only marginally up-to-date.

    Bicycle passing law

You do have to learn this stuff to get a learner’s permit in most states. But that’s only once and if like me, you got that permit nearly 60 years ago the relevant laws have changed and most of us don’t keep up to date unless your locality publisizes the changes and folks bother to see the notices.

While I have no direct knowledge, a recently released firmware update is supposed to fix this feature.

New Turbo Creo - First Impressions

I am aware of the noise made by the motor on my Vado SL, but I find I like it when I’m riding. I generally don’t need the assist, so the motor noise let’s me know the motor is assisting. The sound has been part of my learning about assist levels and the other factors in this discussion.

New Turbo Creo - First Impressions

When I pass a road bike rider struggling up a climb, sitting back on my Vado SL, they’ll pass me on the decent or flat it often dawns on them that I may be riding an ebike, and they ask. We often get into a conversation, which can be fun. Since I’m 74 and the roadie is usually under 30, I don’t...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Interesting. As I mentioned in another thread, I hadn’t though of riding with no assistance when I needed to ride slowly. But, when I’m riding really slowly, in ECO, I feel/hear the assist kicking in in the manner you describe. I hadn’t though about it much, so your description is very...

Vado SL or a more powerful bike?

Unassisted! I hadn’t thought of that, when I ride with my analog only friend. He’s a slow rider except when he want to prove he faster on his analog bike than I am on my ebike. (He is.) Instead, I’ve learned how to ride slowly in a low gear at 75 RPM. No assistance seems like a much better plan.

How to improve bike and pedestrian safety

Here in Northern,Virginia there is pretty of good cycling infrastructure for suburbia. There are trails, bike lanes and most of the sidewalks are MUPs. You can ride to almost anywhere with reasonable safety. But when you get there you don’t have a place to lock up your bike. Whenever I discuss...

    Lightweight e-bike with torque sensor

Your preferences mirror mine. When I was shopping for an ebike about two years ago, my budget was $1500. I soon realized that the hub motor bikes at this price range were not for me. I also wanted to buy from an LBS since I had no experience other than lubing a chain with mike maintenance, let...
