    Chain Lubing?

That's about my approach too. Never had dramas with it, and never felt I got less life out of the chains. Wipe and relube every few weeks, replace chain before it gets to 0.5 stretch. My pre-ebike ride was a 26 year old Apollo Alpine which I flogged riding to school in all weather and knocking...

    Two E-bikes?

I've got two: a commuter and an emtb. I tried hard to make the commuter work on rougher trails but a few rides and close calls made it clear it was well out of its depth on anything beyond a rutted firetrail. When did I decide to buy the second? When discretionary savings permitted and the...

Startling pedestrians can be so much fun.

There's a wider piece drawing these threads together I haven't seen explored well. We've lived through a pretty profound collective shock the last few years, arguably not far off a total war experience (in the west, excess mortality was certainly far higher than any war in living memory). With...

    Tube vs. Tubeless on ebikes

My tubeless maintenance involves checking the tyre pressure every 2-3 weeks (I'd do that with tubes at similar intervals), and setting a calendar alert to top the sealant up every 3 months. The top up takes a few minutes. The ride feel alone is worth the extra 20 minutes a year of labour. I've...

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Tongue firmly in cheek. We've got it pretty easy weather-wise here. We're about 150km south of a town known for its 'optimal temperature'. Having said that, our winter nights get down to single digits and our houses are abysmally built for the cold. There's still no formal requirement for...

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Glorious day for a ride today. Our region is pulling itself out of a long (2 month), cold (20C) winter. Temps were mid 20s with a fresh breeze blowing from inland. Full morning to myself (rare) and no riding buddies (sadly quite common) I got to set my own pace and path. I used it to explore...

I could smell my Vado motor about to fail

That's a deeply disappointing response from Specialized. I would be spitting chips in your shoes. There's plenty of folks on the emtb forum on their 3rd and 4th Specialized motor with rolling warranties. Consider bringing this thread to the attention of their socials - it's not the greatest...

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Interesting topic for all the Anglophiles in duguð hûsscipe. Current scholarship points to intermingling rather than outright genocide of the succeeded people groups (ie. Celts, Britons). It's all absorbed into the potpurri of regional racial makeups. There is evidence of dramatic...

Once again exploring new e touring bikes.

What an amazing trip and interesting brief. Following this thread with interest. Make sure you take pics and post back! Reise and Muller? https://www.r-m.de/en-us/bikes/superdelite/. Looks like a number of 3000ft climbs on the route. These nominal 250W motors should eat that up no worries -...

Do I have a problem with these tires?

I run 38mm front and 42mm rear with that tyre. It was due to stock at the time. Works good. Arguably more grip running the wider tyre up front. But my commute is hardly pushing the limits of traction so I prefer the extra air up back where the weight is. I'll go 42mm front and back when the...

Tubed vs Tubeless - what are you doing on your R&M?

100% I noticed the same switching to faster, lighter tyres. More poppy, rolls downhill faster, quicker off the line and measurably better economy or range. Less of an issue with a motor for sure, but there's still a cost to all that protection.

City alternative for ebike Bontrager E6 tires

Ditto, excellent commuter choice. They're near bulletproof and last forever. I had the non tour version previously: 10k kilometres, only 2 punctures and thousands left on the tread. Look forward to your feedback.

Cyclist husband that I'm looking to keep up with-- help choosing!

An inspired solution @PDoz: retractable tow line for hubby, no ebike needed! Should cut his ride distances down too 😁 Well worth making the Trek to your Trek store, even if all their options are above your budget (as is a Vado SL, more so if you need to modify it for comfortable riding). At...

City alternative for ebike Bontrager E6 tires

Absolutely worth checking comparability with your LBS, but there's usually a lot more than 3mm to play with. For example, my bike came with 700x45 tyres. I've run everything from 700x32 to my current 700x42 with no issues. If I'm reading the spec right, the Verve+3 interior rim width is 20mm...

City alternative for ebike Bontrager E6 tires

On Stefan aboves advice I went from hardy but heavy and dull feeling Marathon Plus city tyres to Specialized Pathfinder Pro gravel tyres. I've found them most agreeable after 12 months of all weather asphalt commuting (it was pouring rain today). I run them tubeless. The feel is great, no...

I could smell my Vado motor about to fail

True, the cost of a product often has limited bearing on its warranty. Consider the 7 year unlimited km coverage of the infinitely more complex ICE motor in a $19k Kia Picanto versus the 2 year warranty of that in a $23k S-Works Levo carbon emtb (incidentally, the same warranty found in an $800...

I could smell my Vado motor about to fail

I think it speaks to the immaturity of the ebike market that we as consumers are offered 2 year warranties on the electronics and brag of motor lifespan in the thousands, while electric car owners get 6 to 8 year warranties and guarantees of hundreds of thousands of trouble free kilometers...

I could smell my Vado motor about to fail

@dollarbin keep on at Specialized corporate, be that squeaky wheel! Chasing them up on public or social channels is often a good way to get attention. The least they should do is look into the claim and provide you with a prompt(er) resolution, whatever that looks like. 2 months without word is...

Builder gone to the dark side.

Congrats on the milestone! Got any advice for those of us with a few less runs on the board? I've been encouraging my partner to get an ebike for years. It was only when she recently rode a non-powered Townie that her face lit up. That relaxed geometry was what she was missing all this time...

    How is your battery health?

As in all attempts to divine what the future may hold, the past is usually a good reference point.
